Ok, but here is the thing.
Physical appearance is so utterly trivial to change that it isn't even an issue. You want a Tiefling with cat eye's and that is it? Feel free. Shaggy green fur? Sure.
Altering your appearance is the most basic of basic things you can do, so it is not something to make a big deal out of. And some people like the change, they like the new aesthetic and the standardized look.
And, just to reiterate what a different poster said, they aren't going to be "normalized" by the people talking about the "weird races" because everything that isn't an Elf, Human, Halfling, Dwarf or occasionally Gnome is "weird". Same to pre-4e Tieflings according to this crowd. So your solution wouldn't even do anything.

The only distinction I'll make is that pre 4e, Tiefling did not have as much stigma in my experience, as they do since the change.

It's still problematic for darksun, potentially =spelljammer, & tbh eberron as well because Asmodeus as so much setting specific lore attached to him & so much of that lore is linked to the planescape planes. It's not like a substitution that doesn't try to force all that couldn't fit either.

Yes it's better than when they were printing a planescape metaplot in non-planescape setting books & making changes to that non-planescape setting to make it for planescape, but using the core books as a subditute for a planescape/FR sourcebook instead of more neutralstuff only goes so far into "better".

What's that a quote from? If you read Eberron: Rising from the Last War, it makes no mention of Asmodeus.

In your campaigns. Don't give them a "stigma". Simple as that.
It is a red herring, distracting from the larger topic of the thread. If you want to rant about Tiefling changes in 4e, make a thread about it.
the damage in player mindsets is done & reinforced by the core books & race entry in the phb itself.
@AcererakTriple6 top right corner of player's handbook page 42. Since you and @Scribe are going in circles on it...
