I just received an update email today regarding the Combat Survey. At the top of the email was this picture:
This is the first time that I have seen these covers. Does anyone have any thoughts about them? My initial impression is that I love the Monster Menagerie cover (what I can see of it). I am less impressed with the Core Rulebook cover. The background terrain is interesting but I do not find the characters to be evocative. The color palette is also strange - I feel like this book would blend in on a bookrack rather then stand out if it was around other gaming books.
And to be clear - I am not an artist and these pieces are better then anything I could ever hope to create. As a long-time fan of fantasy art, I like both pieces, but feel the art chosen for the core rulebook is not cover material. I am sure others will disagree, and that is good as art is subjective.
