Level Up (A5E) WotC's Changes

A number of WotC's recent products, and assuredly the new core books coming in 2024, are making visible and significant changes to parts of the game, most notably the race and monster rules. I'm particularly thinking of the changes to spellcasting monsters. Some 3rd party publishers appear to be planning to follow suit. Is Level Up going to do the same? I really hope not, as I very much dislike the simplified statblocks WotC is pushing now.

I doubt it. Or rather, LU is kind of already doing the spellcasting thing with monsters, only better, because they're still spells, just described in the statblock.

Yeah, I don't want to see spells cut out of the statblocks, like so many of the new monsters have.

Personally, I'm more annoyed out and upset by changing damage types to force damage instead of just keeping the Magic Weapons trait or even just saying that a monster does 1d8+3 magic slashing damage, and by getting rid of Keen Senses and instead upping all Perception rolls. Combined with the change to spells--and the removal of some of the flavorful, non-combat-type spells--I definitely don't want to get MPMM.

I'll just have to wait for there to be a Level Up MMII.

They, those are definitely issues too. I hope Level Up holds the course.

I think we're very happy with the way we put spells in the statblock.
