Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

I haven't seen recent seasons so I can't say how good the writing is there, but for me good writing on Doctor Who is less about little holes like "why doesn't he just use the TARDIS" (which they usually pave over with made up BS anyways) and more about how engaging the story and characters are. The Girl in the Fireplace has a lot of little plot holes like that, and there are portions that feel like they could use better explanation, but it is still one of my favorite episodes because it is so engrossing every time I see it.
Oh yeah. Like I said, I'm more than willing to give Doctor Who a huge amount of good will and ignore an awful lot. If plot holes are something that really grind your gears, then Doctor Who likely isn't for you. It's not too hard to find them in any given episode.

I just found this specific episode to be rather jarring. Even Space Babies didn't bother me as much as this one did.

That episode is at the top of my list of ones to suggest to people who have never watched the show - I think it's a top-notch one-shot story and a great example of what the show is like a lot of the time.

I didn't like "Rogue" as much as I've liked every other episode this season, but the Doctor-and-Rogue stuff was great.

My complaints are that the tension just wasn't there for me for most of the run-time. I kept expecting another little twist or surprise somewhere.

For the record, I think this Doctor has cried in every episode he's led so far.

I can tell I'm into this iteration because I'm genuinely excited to find out the reveals in the next two episodes. Ruby's history. Susan Twist. Susan Foreman? Who's the One Who Waits?

#2 - I did not like how this one ended. The field stops anyone from moving, but, someone else can push you out? Err, what? I really did not like that.
I think they missed a trick here - earlier in the episode there was a comment about walking away and leaving a shoe behind (one shoe, but never mind...) Given that the trap worked by some sort of molecular bonding, all they needed to do was establish that Ruby was wearing some sort of slip-on footwear, and that's most of the problem solved.

They'd then just need to establish that the distance was too great to step, or jump without a run, and you can still get your heroic sacrifice.

All that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Actually, I've found each episode generally more enjoyable than the last. A shame they started with "Space Babies", as that's the only one I really didn't like.

I think it was more that Rogue stepped into the field right as he pushed Ruby out, thereby satisfying the field's programming/limitations.

okay i've finally caught up. I liked how the lighting dimmed to were it was only The Doctor And Rogue giving it that "only thing that matters to each other" feeling.

wow, so maybe you guys who have watched classic who know who they were referring to as the one they couldn't catch.

Well Susan certainly was a Twist!

and just who is Mrs Flood?

two parter, looking forward to next week now

Well Susan certainly was a Twist!
Was she, though? Why did she show up everywhere? Why is she a genius who made a software platform who has dreams of different versions of herself? I hope RTD explains that next week, but I worry, like 'Bad Wolf', it's going to be left as just "I just said this word lots of times and that's plot seeding! Now tell me how clever I am!" ... but there's no actual plot, just a repeated word (or actor). She turned out not to be a twist, just a meme.

That said, at first I was like, is that really what you want Sutekh to look like? A big CGI donkey? But then I checked out the 1970s version of him. Yeah, this is a much better rendition of the same thing. I'll go with the CGI donkey.
