Are the Beast and Sutekh the same thing?

Both are the Whoniverse 'Satan', said to be the universe's concept of the Devil.

And both are voiced by the same actor--Gabriel Woolf (also, what a cool name!)

And the plot of The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit was basically the plot of Pyramids of Mars. Satan/Sutekh trapped forever (by a pyramid/by a black hole), possesses people to try to escape, gets re-trapped by the Doctor.

Was she, though? Why did she show up everywhere? Why is she a genius who made a software platform who has dreams of different versions of herself? I hope RTD explains that next week, but I worry, like 'Bad Wolf', it's going to be left as just "I just said this word lots of times and that's plot seeding! Now tell me how clever I am!" ... but there's no actual plot, just a repeated word (or actor). She turned out not to be a twist, just a meme.

That said, at first I was like, is that really what you want Sutekh to look like? A big CGI donkey? But then I checked out the 1970s version of him. Yeah, this is a much better rendition of the same thing. I'll go with the CGI donkey.

yeah thats why I'm looking forward to next week - to see if we do get the twists nicely revealed and satisfactorily explained - I'll leave the potential disappointment and exacerbation until then:)

As too Sutekh I was thinking more giant flying Fox than donkey, but sure for the ultimate evil death of the universe Sutekh puppet isnt very scary - at least this one was better than the papier mache mask of the 70's .

Good point about The Beast, Doctor Tom calls Sutekh Set and Satan - so they are certainly pulling from the same mythologies, and I suppose there are only so many low budget plots that fit Doctor v Ultimate Cosmic Destroyer

So I tried watching Pyramids of Mars after this episode. It didn't really take. I didn't grow up with the classic Doctor Who and I find that serial glacial and goofy.

I just wasn't engaged by this one. I couldn't understand the connection between Ruby and Susan Twist, so I couldn't get why The Doctor was putting more effort into the Time Window than the ticking clock of yet another surprise world-changing announcement (Can I just say that this particular tick of RTD I have not missed).

Hopefully the resolution will be better and might put to bed my qualms over part one. Certainly I liked the performances.

As yet there is no point to Susan Twist. Other than that she’s shown up in each episode for … reasons? … she has no plot relevance at all. Why does she keep showing up? Why is her name an anagram of TARDIS and her company name a weird anagram of Sutekh? What’s the point of the anagrams anyway?

There’s either going to be some kind of big reveal next week… or there isn’t. With RTD it could go either way. Bad Wolf, remember? Not a plot just a word used a lot.

Well Susan certainly was a Twist!

and just who is Mrs Flood?
Well, if we ignore the anagram stuff and just go by Susan's surname, Triad, that implies that there are three of them - three harbingers of Sutekh - H Arbinger, S Triad, and most likely Mrs Flood as the third.

That seemed obvious enough to me. The one thing the Doctor really wasn't keen on doing was meeting back up with his granddaughter, whether because of guilt over having left her behind or worry about bringing trouble to her, probably both. So he was running down every other possible lead before resorting to doing that.
