Thinking about getting into the new speed paints? Is there a good starter set? Mostly regular 32mm medium sized figures
I am not a big fan of paint sets unless you're sure you want all the colors in the set. I think you're better off just picking up whichever color suits your fancy. One of the tough things with speed paints is that you don't really know what it's going to look like once it dries until you've used it a few times. Some speed paint colors are great, Ghillie Dew from Army Painter is a great green, but there are some other colors that just sit unused and unloved in my collection. Some of Citadel's Contrast Paints are really hit or miss, especially the flesh colors.

I've been grabbing Vallejo wash sets, but thats about it. I find I need less specific washes so the kits work well.

Just finished this Lt today. He's gonna be the leader of my Trench Crusade warband.

I got an Army Painter wash set sometime before 2017 and I'm just not running out of some of the colors. I've used all the washes at one point or another, some more than others, but overall it's a good set.

The army painter speed paints 2.0 have plenty of reviews on YouTube to give you some context or comparisons to other companies like the contrast paints from citadel.

I mix 'em!

Okay, there’s always more to add. I added some blood effects and some lovely Army Painter Oozing Vomit on his mouth, chins, and stomach. I really wanted this guy to be gross.

I don't think I've talked about this at all, but a lot of times the miniatures I paint are inspirations for NPCs in games I'm running or even PCs. I'm about to start a D&D campaign set in Greyhawk, and the PCs are going to be investigating a kidnapping. This miniature, and a few Ogors from Games Workshop I'm working on, have inspired me to make the kidnappers the notorious Fat Boys. These bandits worship Erythnul and have a nasty habit of eating their foes. This ritual cannibalism brings them closer to their god, twisting their form into something more bestial and terrible.
