Favorite mythological creature

When you say mythological creature, do you include all the stuff from folklore, like folktales, etc?

Stuff from myth… there is a bunch. From folktales when I was a small kid I really loved the story Bunbuku Chagama (the Magic Tea Kettle). That story featured a magical tanuki (racoon dog) and for a long time that was my favorite folktale creature. Later in life, I noticed the artwork for tanuki featured a rather… odd feature that wasn't in the kids book that I read so much. A little embarrassing to be a fan of that.

yeah those Tanuki bags are a fascinating feature, they are my favourite yokai

Tatzelwurm is a good one. I also like the Wolpertinger. Mainly because it's so odd.

I don't know much about the Wolpertinger, but Jackalope is a personal favorite here too.

From classical mythology, I like Chimera.

Spending much of my childhood vacationing in/around Wisconsin, but never TO Rhinelander, I've always been intrigued with the Hodag.

Although I try to be respectful of the cultural belief that recognize it, I've long been fascinated by the Wendigo.

Big fan of the peryton. Glad it's been getting a little more show in minis and adventures.

Also enchanted by Kirin.

But my all time favorite is the Piasa. It's a fascinating blank slate.

I guess I'm into things with antlers?

Hard to beat the Stymphalian Birds - bronze maneating beaks that pierce armor but are trappable in corkwood, launchable metallic feathers, poisonous dung....possibly transfigured daughters of an Arcadian prince, live an impenetrable marsh, cleverly frightened from their reed-bound lair and killed by Hercules with arrows tipped with the poison of another monster he had slain. Gamablility off the charts.

Well the one I think we need to raise awareness of is the Bonnacon:

Bonnacon.jpg

It is a cowardly bull-like creature who runs away from its enemies, but beware pursuers, for when chased it will spray its trail with fecal matter which has the power to burn you like like a sort of fire, and it can lay down this devious dung for as far as three furlongs. According to one source the mere fumes of its leavings will light it's foes ablaze.
