According to Bloomberg, Larion Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 has sold over 20 million copies. CEO Sven Vincke confirmed that 15 million copies were sold in 2024, and another 5 million in 2025.

Larion Studios, a Belgian company with over 500 staff worldwide, announced in March 2025 that the team was 'elated' not to sign up to make a sequel to Baldur's Gate 3 -- “I thought they were going to be angry at me because I just couldn’t muster the energy. I saw so many elated faces, which I didn’t expect, and I could tell they shared the same feelings, so we were all aligned with one another."

The company is now working on a title in its own Divinity series of games. Vincke also brought up the topic of AI, indicating that attempts to incorporate AI into that game were not successful and that there would be no AI in the upcoming Divinity title.

How much of a factor was the basic rpg rules of d&d a factor in svens decision not to do Bg3 or even a pathfinder crit role type game

Why do I ask you say. His first comment was something to the effect of divinity ruleset is more enjoyable to him than d&d .

I bet he was the driving factor in not doing bg4 and I think he liked the money aspect but he wasn’t having as much fun. I wonder if wotc kept him on the rails and he hated it. Hated cooldowns and one attack per round etc etc

Sven was always pretty vocal about preferring the DOS combat engine to D&D. I think he prefers the far more flashier abilities in that series, but that's just conjecture on my part. But it wasn't the only factor. He "gently" voiced his disapproval with the numerous firings/retirement of WotC staff, and not being able to work with familiar faces. But I really do think the former is his primary reason. =P

One of his primary D&D contacts left D&D for a competing video game.
His complaint about this was prior to the Crawford-Perkins announcements, though he may have known.

It seemed to be about Stewart and Mearls, who also, iirc, helped with the movie

unless this is new, I only know of a 'senior cinematic artist' joining Project Red. Not sure how it could be the team either, unless they bought Larian.
Not the whole team. No ‘the’ in the sentence. I know Felix Perdulla went across. Though I get my computer gaming news from Facebook so I’m sure that is well behind the forum curve. It’s groovy though.
