    Alternative Beast Master: Beta 0.1

Ooooh I see! My bad, I was not reading closely enough, and making assumptions. Well as far as action economy, I like that a lot. The spell makes a lot of sense. I would be careful with simply giving extra spells known. If that's all that is done, the Ranger still has to use valuable spell...

    Alternative Beast Master: Beta 0.1

But if the bird gets one free action of his own, wouldn't that total to two animal companion attacks, if you have given him one your attacks? Or am I misunderstanding the free-er action economy of the animal companion? I honestly totally forgot about the pterodactyl, that's a fair point. I...

    Alternative Beast Master: Beta 0.1

At a glance, it just seems blatantly overpowered. Why would anyone not choose a bird companion when it has comparable damage to the current best choices that a Beast Master can have, AND it has a fly speed of 60 feet with Flyby? It also has comparable health and AC. It can literally just take...

D&D 5E With the reintroduction of PrCs which are on your 'must see' list?

Thinking about it... I kind of hope they release a "Swordmage" prestige class. My beef with the Eldritch Knight could really be addressed by multiclassing into a 5-level Prestige class that has certain features available to it (maybe things like substituting Dex bonus for Int bonus for AC...

    D&D 5E FINALS! (1) Fighter v. (1) Wizard

I agree with you, but I am curious: Do you really think playing a solo campaign with just a wizard would be easier? Seems like it would be harder simply because of how fragile wizards are, especially at low-ish levels. In that particular situation, Fighters seem better suited.

D&D 5E What classes do you want added to 5e?

My main issue with the EK is how it is usually better on any given turn to just attack with weapons as opposed to using spells to augment your attacks, at will. Luckily, Cantrips like Greenflame Blade should go a long way toward that actual blend of sword and sorcery that I was looking for in...

Last D&D Survey Results In! Plus What's Up With The Ranger?

Also a very fair viewpoint. You mentioned vidja game in your last post, and I come from a strong background of that, so maybe that's why I do like the concept so much. Your point about it being not so conducive to this format for gaming might be spot on. It's a lot of book keeping to manage...

Last D&D Survey Results In! Plus What's Up With The Ranger?

This is a fair opinion. I heavily considered a Necromancer for awhile, but decided against it for these exact reasons. How fun is it for my companions to have to wait for me to collect corpses and rot the flesh off so I can make animated skeletons? Not very. My hope was that Beastmaster would...

    D&D 5E FINALS! (1) Fighter v. (1) Wizard

Honestly, it depends highly on the level of the participants. If we're talking two level 20 characters here, then it's hard to not put the Wizard in front. Cast a 9th level spell like Shapechange? Hard to fight through a CR 20 Dragon and then have to still deal with a wizard that can cast Shield...

Last D&D Survey Results In! Plus What's Up With The Ranger?

My personal thoughts on the Beastmaster: I think restricted action economy for the beast companion is very reasonable. I just wish they would open up our other options, especially for those levels before Extra Attack kicks in. I think it would behoove the class to fold the 7th level "feature"...

    D&D 5E FINALS! (1) Fighter v. (1) Wizard

Does grapple limit the target's spellcasting ability? (genuine question) Also, any wizard worth his bat guano is going to have Misty Step ready to zap out of that grapple and get out of range.

D&D 5E The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

I find myself in a place that doesn't seem as common (or perhaps more commonly touted) on these boards. I wasn't alive when the first few renditions of the game were made, and my introduction to D&D (and table top roleplaying as a whole) came with 4e. I loved it, and I still do. But then came...

D&D 5E Do Fighters Still Suck?

First of all: Yes. Much yes. That would be a really nice benefit. As to the rest, I think I may have come across differently than how I actually view the feat. I guess what I was implying with situationally useful is there are a lot of "bigger" things out there that shove won't really work...

D&D 5E Do Fighters Still Suck?

I seem to have a very different take on this. By the time everyone is maxing their primary ability score, you have a powerful feat. Honestly, I feel like feats that are powerful are plenty interesting, but we've grown accustomed to them. Polearm Master, Great Weapon Master, and Sharpshooter in...

D&D 5E About Bonus action attacks and shove.

This was very unclear to me, but I understand now. Personally I wouldn't allow one to gain the +2 from the shield if they are using it as an improvised weapon. It's either being used as a shield or it's being used as a weapon. I think that's a very fair interpretation, but I can understand other...

Rogue Mastermind Archetype Up, Courtesy of Extra Life

Huh. That seems an odd statement for me personally. Those seem like very strong features to have by 5 or 6. Considering Extra Attack wasn't mentioned, I can kind of see it though. Would this build include the very divisive inspirational healing? I guess the odd thing for me is that 5e seems...

D&D 5E About Bonus action attacks and shove.

Shield Master also provides defensive benefits, by allowing an admittedly niche bonus to Dex saving throws that ONLY target you, but also providing the opportunity to completely block any Dex saving throws that you succeed on. Manage to save against that dragon's breath? Congrats, at the cost of...

D&D 5E [Speculation] SCAG: What sorcerer Archetype?

For some reason I feel like WotC feels like "We already did the whole 'elemental' schtick with the Draconic Bloodline" so we probably won't be seeing anything like a broad class like that, in my personal opinion. Storm was cool, and my personal preferred of the two we've seen so far. I'm hoping...

D&D 5E What classes do you want added to 5e?

Not one that can "revive" someone who is already completely unconscious due to physical injury? If it were healing through allowing the expenditure of hit dice or some kind of natural reserve, then I could see it. Doing that while already completely down and out just doesn't jive with me. It's...

D&D 5E Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

It's this statement that really doesn't work. No class gets this or has gotten it. I think people would be genuinely open to listening more about a new, full class, if this very tight constraint wasn't placed on its execution.
