I set up a group donation for the player related products. I rarely am a player, so I would prefer books that are either useful to us both or mainly geared towards DMs

I have told my parents that I mainly want stuff for DnD for my gifts. The problem is I don't know what books I exactly want. My mom said she would spend $200 ($160, minus the Dungeon Subscription). I am a DM (still new to the hobby) and only have the core books. I own no Campaign setting either...

I have found myself too busy to make my own homebrew setting, and very tight on money. Are there any free campaign settings you recommend? I plan on buying FR or Eberron in a few months, for a new campaign. Thanks, and sorry if a topic like this is already floating around :)

Are all of these adventure paths discouraged to new players?

Well Glyfair said exactly what I was going to say :P Burning Plague and Wizards Amulet are both a blast to run, not to many changes needed on WA. Necromancer also adds a difficulty level for the adventure, depending on how long your players have been playing...

None of my players in real life want to DM, so I find my DM escapism through being a player in online games.

I recommend The Burning Plague ( http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20000801a ) I ran it recently, not much preparing needed. I had loads of fun running it. Plus its free!

First off, Props for getting your life back. I lost 2 years of my life a little MMO some call WoW, someting just clicks one day in your head that you don't enjoy the hobby anymore. Like the others said, take the game easy and just have fun with it. Heck, run a 1on1 game with your daughter...
