The Best Class/Build for My Party's Leader?

The issue, as I see it, is you want something 1.) Relatively uncomplicated so you can focus more on getting used to 4e and 2.) You don't want a TPK repeat. A Pacifist Cleric, properly built, is basically the anti-death of a party. Your party simply can't die if you're conscious. In addition to...

Battle Standard of Healing Argument Revisited

Revisted? O.o Property: When you use a power that lets one or more creatures spend a healing surge to regain hit points, one target regains an extra 1d6 hit points. Property: When you use a power that enables you or an ally to regain hit points, add the brooch’s enhancement bonus to the hit...

    The Bard's Melee Weapon powers

Daggers and Farbond Spellblades are also Ranged Weapons. Both my Valorous and Cunning Bard cheerfully used RotBB.

The Best Class/Build for My Party's Leader?

Uh-huh. I can build a Cleric which can allow a five person party to spend 10+ surges per combat. If you used every single MC heal as a Bard you'd barely be able to match that, for one encounter/day, while paying the steep price of taking some very lackluster feats (and the skill training...

    Barbarian Charge Question

To address an earlier post, the free action errata was almost completely a response to the following. Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible The basic idea being: Increase crit range temporarily, add in rerolls...

    Barbarian Charge Question

No, the reason for the free action errata was to prevent infinite recursive crit chains. Ironically it didn't do that either, since many of the triggering effects are No Actions and were never errata'd (though it did make it more difficult, infinite damage one/day instead of one/encounter).

    Barbarian Charge Question

Defensive and not enjoying when someone who hasn't read the rules as carefully telling me I'm wrong really aren't in the same ballpark, especially when the follow up is (ironically) that I need to read what you wrote more closely when you haven't given me the same courtesy by reading the rules...

    Barbarian Charge Question

I'm sure about it. Swift Charge isn't an attack power, the charge it generates is a No Action. The mistake comes from people associating "Attack" and "Attack Power" (as you are doing, in fact). The quoted passage supports me, not you, because it specifies the attacks must be made as free action...

The Best Class/Build for My Party's Leader?

If you're not in a rush remember you can use a Healing Spell, wait five minutes, use a... etc., Song of Rest barely helps if you do this (and this is completely intended, in fact there is even a feat that maximizes all healing done this way). So that feature is rarely worthwhile. Secondly a...

    Barbarian Charge Question

Rules: You get as many free actions at any time as you want, limited only my DM fiat. You can use one free action attack power per turn. So ask yourself the question: Is Swift Charge an Attack Power? The answer is no, it is a class feature power. How to Read a Power, PHB 1/2/3. Worth...

    The Bard's Melee Weapon powers

Yes. Guiding Strike doesn't compare to either Vicious Mockery or Staggering Note, really, and for second At-Wills you're looking at some minor THP generation. There are many levels with outright terrible options, particularly for dailies. The best thing to do as a Bard is to take MC...

    "Cannot See," v. Blinded

Also a creature with Tremorsense/Blindsight can be blinded but can still see.... so there are differences.

Your Group is Missing a Role

Two Person Party: Leader+Striker Three Person Party: Defender+Leader+Striker Highly Optimized Two Person Party: Controller|Leader Striker|Leader (Artificer|Wizard+Cleric|Ranger) It really comes down one thing. Surviving long enough. Strikers help out the "surviving long enough" part by...

What's the Consensus on Illusory Wall?

I don't see the confusion with the gold rating. It allows you to completely cut an encounter in half. Say you're facing some ranged artillery with a few elites or normal brutes/soldiers. An optimized party could deal with either one of those two groups in 1-2 turns. The wall will hold up either...

    A Dazed Deadnought

Worth noting that the slowed condition immediately stops movement when inflicted if the target has moved more then two squares, so all conditions have similar rulings going both ways. You get something the effects apply, you lose something the effects no longer apply.

    Feats: PHB vs Essentials

Both feats qualify themselves as a Feat Bonus, they wouldn't stack. Either would stack with Stubborn Survivor though, which is untyped.

    Feats: PHB vs Essentials

Worth noting that Improved Defenses is only 1 better then Paragon Defense which is then retrained into Robust Defenses, which is what people used to do. Unless you were in one of those, quite sensible, groups who give out expertise and paragon/robust for free (just like the developer's home...

Did Divine Channeler always give you a daily?

CB got it wrong. This is fairly common, most of the MC feats that give you a 1/encounter use the MC classes at-will (Warlock and Wizard) used to print as Green which got fixed at some point. Though if you were a Paladin/Invoker/etc it would be an encounter power, because the feat states that...

    D&D 4E [4E] Barbarian build advice?

Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible Hide Armor Expertise is a garbage feat now, sad to say. You'll be better off going Str/Dex even as a Rageblood. Read the handbook, check some of the example builds, and post questions in the thread if you have any. Enjoy.
