What are you getiing your Game Master for the Holidays?

I am the GM, and my players are my friends, so any Christmas presents are probably going to be non game-related and more me-related, although I would not be surprised if someone got me the World of Warcraft RPG Horde Player's Guide.

How closely do you track daily expenses for your players?

Hardly at all; by the time I thought of it they'd secured their own island. They do have to keep track of major expenses for the island, but if they plan on getting a dinner out, I don't have them subtract 35 gil from their character sheet.

How much profanity in your game?

Our characters hardly ever swear, but we have our weak moments. None of my villains have gone further than the PG-rated ones, but we occasionally earn an "M" for Mature rating.

How do you have a mentor travel with a group of PC's and NOT steal their spotlight?

The wizard's arch-rival Evil McBadGuy is also exploring this area, or has journeyed here for Nefarious Reason The First. The wizard has a series of specially designed spells (or something similar in the PHB, since I don't have that with me at work) that will hide their presence or their magic...

[Rant] Bad cliches, silly names, and acting stupid around the gaming table

All things in moderation. I don't think I could play in a game that was all slapstick and puns, and I don't think I could play in a game that had the Zidane Complex (every major city you visit is promptly destroyed and it's all because of you). I think a healthy mix is... um, healthy. Bad...

    What Source works best for...

Urban Arcana is a supplement for d20 Modern, yes. Not one I own, but one I looked through. I have been running a Final Fantasy RPG in a world much like VII and VIII for three years now, and we're about near the end. I built the game from the bottom up, and as such revised things about three...

    Has Enworld made you better?

EN World has definitely made me a better gamer. While I haven't posted as much as pretty much everyone, I've been regularly reading the forums here since 2002. I have a much better rules understanding thanks to the people in the Rules forum, I've modified my house rules off of that forum...

How Many Groups Do You Play In?

I voted 1, although last month it was 2 -- one folded due to a player's law school. I don't think I could fit another in anymore, though, without giving up some of my slack and writing and girlfriend time. I can easily do one, but tying up almost 30% of my nights with gaming isn't something I...

    Does anyone play Kult?

I played in a Kult game in high school, and up until recently owned a sourcebook. It's a remarkably vivid game, but very unsettling and disturbing at the same time. Every game has a dark side that you can promote; the Nephandic rituals in Mage or the deepest illithid cults in D&D can be twisted...

Most amusing line in a game book?

While I can't remember an exact offhand (as I am at work), the World of Warcraft RPG books occasionally have bits written by Brann Bronzebeard, dwarven explorer extraordinaire, and I believe he blames the entire Undead Scourge on the necromancer Kel'Thuzad's lack of luck with the ladies.

WotC News - Is this for real???

I like the title -- I look at it and I instantly know what the book is about. I haven't grabbed a Complete book yet, but I think I will snag this one.

What have you stolen lately for your game?

I run a Final Fantasy game, so I steal in ridiculous quantities from the other games in the series. However, my most inspired (and painful) thievery comes from a number of places. I'm horrible with names, so I've been pulling from one standard place for each group of names I need. Every...

A Work Intensive Approach to World Creation

Also chiming with a note on how fantastic this thread is. I'm using your thought progression as a template for my world, and it has me thinking in ways I hadn't before, and coming up with new ideas I don't think I would have, either.

    Your Wow Moment

My biggest "Wow!" moment has really been a big "Wow!" three years, as I'm still just amazed and awestruck about how great my relationship is and how much my life has turned around. Three years ago I was living on a friend's couch in the living room of a too-small and too-full apartment, spending...

Do You Kill off your PC's.

I have a pretty character-specific campaign, so I haven't killed a character off permanently. That said, I've knocked them down into the negatives more than once and dropped them to single digits repeatedly. I would have killed one player had he not completely outsmarted me and the dragon he was...

Homebrews - The Place of Dragons in our Cosmologies

In Final Fantasy Omega, the game I run: There are two major dragons: Bahamut, the King of the Dragons, and Tiamat, Scourge of the Dragons. Both Bahamut and Tiamat are part of the Far Realm, the land of Aeons/Espers/Guardian Forces/things that can be summoned. Bahamut and Tiamat oppose each...

How long do your D&D 3.X campaigns tend to last?

My campaign has gone from 1st to 15th level, and is going very strong. My average is pulled way down from the one-or-two-levels-gained campaigns that everyone else has run over the last few years, with the game ultimately falling apart for some reason or another.

[EDITION WARZ] Selling Out D&D's Soul?

If you take the increased amount of spells-per-day away from the sorceror, their power drops too. Take away a rogue's sneak attack, and suddenly he's a liability in combat. And if you take away a barbarian's rage and drop his BAB to 3/4, he becomes a significantly poorer warrior than the...
