Mapping a Very Very Large Dungeon

Using the select tool in Adobe Reader allows you to select an image on a given page, copy it, and paste it into any application that handles images.

Mapping a Very Very Large Dungeon

If you have a computer and a TV/monitor, you could use something like MapTool which would allow you to scan or redraw the entire map and explore it on the screen with fog of war and all. The tokens (PCS) move through the dungeon and explore it bit by bit seamlessly on one map.

    Fixed Level Gaming

Woas, I had the same reaction after I switched to Savage Worlds. Savage Worlds still has advancement, but XP is award by the GM per session, usually about 1-3 points per session depending on how successful the party was. However, Savage Worlds allows one to create characters that are more...

    Fixed Level Gaming

Leveling and Advancement is only important in a game system that requires it or in a game that dangles that carrot before you. D&D imposes a restriction to really cool character abilities based on how many make-believe points you earn. It taunts you by showing you what's possible, but not...

Starting a Rogue char. Is mobility worth it?

Right, but mobility would still be applicable during that charge attack.

Does the Psion Get a Psicrystal for Free?

A 3.0 psion did get a psicrystal for free, though. They simply opened up the option by swapping it for a bonus feat instead. You'll also notice both in the 3.5 SRD and Expanded Psionics Handbook that the psicrystal description is still contained within the section for the psion class as it was...

    Wizards spellbook

Heh, that would be why it never came up before. We usually only played until about 10th-level.

    Wizards spellbook

What about the idea of a second completely new spellbook with completely new spells, thus having two different spellbooks of your own creation with different spells? This could be great for not putting all your proverbial eggs in one basket as well as extending the number of spells available to...

Does anyone use 3.x search this way?

Exactly. It's tedious, which is why many change it to a sweep of the room, but it's accurate to the RAW. We always searched specific objects (i.e. - door, chest, cabinet, dais, throne, etc.) or 5x5 areas of a floor or wall. You also must be within 10ft. of the object or surface. Side note: For...

    Diplomacy and Aid Another

Honestly, with +20 modifiers to diplomacy (specifically), you'd be better off allowing each character to make seperate checks to bump the attitude twice. Remember that Diplomacy is a fixed table based on initial attitudes. Additionally, Aid Another is primarily meant for characters using skills...

    Lorraine Williams did... what?

Savage Worlds players of the Slipstream RPG might certainly find the Buck Rogers stuff interesting now.

    Wordclouds from the 4e and 3e PH's

Why the different fonts? I'm curious how they would visually compare if they used the same font. The 3.5 version seems to use a slimmer font type while 4e is much bolder and thicker.

    Recomend A Game System?

I'd consider Savage Worlds simply because it helps to get the rules out of the way of roleplaying while also using it's rules as a scaffold for stronger roleplaying. In other words, the rules as designed actually encourage roleplay because they aren't as concerned with micromanaging the game...

    Battlemats

Have you tried placing the tiles on grip liner used for shelves and drawers or on your Chessex mat? I find that they keep the tiles from sliding around very well.

    When will PDFs be over?

And here's the rub. I wouldn't feel a need to print if I had a format that was viewable on a low-cost handheld or lightweight tablet-like device. (Have you seen the Plastic Logic device?) Seriously, many users feel the need to print their PDFs because reading the PDF with the current technology...

    When will PDFs be over?

I was answering your question as to why it became the dominant format for the sake of others.;)

    When will PDFs be over?

Do you know how easy it is to create a PDF from Adobe InDesign? If you've already done your layout for the print product in InDesign, why wouldn't you simply save it as a PDF, set the permissions in the file in the process, and stick it on an ecommerce service/site?

    Battlemats

The other alternative, if you have a computer and a TV or large display in your gaming environment, is MapTool. You can precreate all of your encounter maps, load them up, create tokens for the NPCs, monsters and PCs, and you're set. Time to end the game and in the middle of combat? Saving the...
