    In Remembrance:2007

Oscar Peterson, a legendary jazz pianist well-known for his collaborations with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillepsie and Stéphane Grapelli, died yesterday December 23rd in his home in Mississauga, Ontario.

    Scorsese does Hitchcock

In the vein of the BMW short films with Clive Owen a few years back, a Spanish distillery asked Martin Scorsese to create a short film to promote its product. Scorcese used the opportunity to do something really interesting -- bringing to life a Hitchcock film that was never produced...

Heroes Death Pool: Writers Strike FINAL ROUND!

Also: HRG -- Horn-Rimmed Glasses. I would simply put 'Noah' to avoid the mistake altogether Victoria Pratt -- I don't know where you got 'Linda' :uhoh: **Bonus trivia: Victoria Pratt is the name of an actress who played in another superhero-themed TV show: Mutant X. Coincidence? Homage?

    Recommend a less-known scifi movie/series

Survivors by Terry Nation. The 3 seasons are now available on DVD, but in the UK only. The series decribes the 'adventures' of a group of British survivors after a biological accident wipes out most of the Earth's population. It was quite brutal and bleak, with many of the main survivors being...

D&D and World of Warcraft (Not a Rant)

Getting back to Blood Elves and Draenei... Apart from the solar/fire theme in their appearance and architecture, blood elves remind me of drow the most: decadent, haughty, looking to magic to solve their problems. Draenei would be closer to aasimars: they are both inherently noble, loyal...

Blade Runner - The Final Cut

That's exactly what I would be looking for. I was surprised to find out that Ridley Scott didn't like the narration. This was my first film noir, and so it set my expectations for films in that genre. When I saw the director's cut later on, I was suprised at how much I missed it. :(

    Heroes: The Powers

You forgot one: Telekinesis - Brian Davis (only seen in 'Six Months Ago' before Sylar killed him)

    Canada portrayed negatively in games?

Negative? Maybe sometimes. Inaccurate? Yes, but not any more than the general media. My favorite example is the West Wing special that aired after September 11th: a suspected terrorist enters the U.S. through the Ontario-Vermont crossing... even though they don't border each other!

    [Trailer] Iron Man

Yes -- it's "Hell Above the Water" from Curve, on their album Gift. As for '...using that same old tired industrial loop...', I've only heard it once before in a trailer, and it was for the first Spider-Man. However, they seem to be pretty popular with Hollywood types, since their songs have...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

I liked what they did in Ars Magica: having a familiar would speed up your research (an important part of the downtime in that game), and you could cast rituals that would improve your link with them. I remember one that would allow the familiar to breathe for you for an hour or so -- great for...

Imbue with Spell Ability -- clarification needed

We've always used a) in our campaigns. Also, we've always assumed that you need a) to use b), so the target loses all the spell slots granted by imbue with spell ability.

    Is there a D&D equivilent?

You mean like this: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/characterFlaws.htm (this originally appeared in Unearthed Arcana)

Why are hit points generated randomly?

One big point in favour of going to fixed hit points is the bell curve factor that comes into play once you roll more than 1 dice. As you gain more and more hit dice, your hp total will tend to be increasingly average. It seems kinda strange that all the giants in a tribe will have about the...

    Transmuter...advice needed

The sha'ir – originally from Al-Qadim, and reprinted in the Dragon Compendium – casts spells retrieved by its familiar. Arcane spells are the easiest to retrieve, but he can try to retrieve divine spells also.

There's a funny typo in the Lore section: Maybe they should have called it the premature blade ;-) !

Demonomicon - after the big 14?

I voted for Shami-Amourae, the Queen of Succubi from a very early issue of Dungeon. The only reason I recognized her is that our group had a memorable adventure in her ruined temple.

Help me find a Cleric spell, please.

Do you mean spawn screen? http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/spells&tablefilter=spawn Hmmm... it doesn't specifically rule out animation through spells, but I think it would be a fair extrapolation. Consecrate would also work if the corpse can be secured in the area:

Cool mounts 2 - simple solutions?

I was thinking along those lines when I read this earlier in the thread: If a 15-HD horse encounters a 6th-level PC, it's more likely that he'll use you rather than the other way around! ;)

The Great Modron March... any ideas?

It's funny, I was just re-reading the GMM adventure this week-end (one thing that struck me -- there are almost no maps). To get back to your question, it states in the adventure that the purpose for the march is mostly information-gathering. It's implied that Primus keeps records for all the...
