Anyone else mark the monster population ON a copy of the dungeon map when preparing?

I think that maps can be designed for a narrower focus; one map for players and one for DMs. Most RPG maps try to pull double-duty, and it constrains where you can push the design. You want a pleasing to look at map with minimal information on the player map. The DM's map should be designed to...

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

My weekly group consists of players new and old. We did the Playtest when it was active and then went to check out Star Wars Edge of the Empire while WotC worked on it. Started with the LMoP and we just got to Wave Echo Cave after 8 Sessions. We rebuilt PCs once the PH came out. Having a...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Delay" in 5e

We've noticed that there is no 'Delay' action in 5e PH (or maybe I've missed it!). There are instances where a player wants to see how the action unfolds before acting, and 'Ready' isn't what the are looking to do. Are there any unintended consequences to House Ruling Delay? Thanks, Verys

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

I would say that the animal companion rules would for the template for PCs that want to have a pet sans class feature. I wouldn't allow a non-hunter to get a pet that has full independent actions. Or if I did, it would count as another PC for XP division and encounter balancing. I don't think...

D&D 5E (2014) Perception in 5e, discuss how it works

I've noticed that a lot of the traps and secret doors in the Lost Mines of Phandelver have different DCs for passive perception and active perception, as well.

Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

Yes, I noticed that too when the Basic rules were released. I'm planning on doing an update after the PH is released, just in case there is anything else that needs adjusting.

D&D 5E (2014) Unexpected but (mostly) awesome new rules in Basic

Here is something that made me go hmmm. There is no 5 foot step or shift in 5e, and Disengage is an action. So a spell caster or archer has to either attack with disadvantage or spend their turn retreating safely. A ranged character that finds itself in melee has a much more difficult time...

D&D 5E (2014) Three cheers for Mearls and Co.!

Agreed. I love that if you squint you can see the impact of every edition, but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

I've added a spell sheet version for casting classes now. It is meant to be printed double-sided, folded, and then put inside the main character sheet so it forms a little mini-book.

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L is up

It could be that they have chosen to include more Evoker spells on the wizard spell list since the subclass in Basic is an Evoker, and left others off the basic list?

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it)

Getting excited. Already posted my 5e Character Sheet Booklet (folded landscape, double-sided, and form-fill). It is one of the first things I do every edition. http://www.enworld.org/forum/rpgdownloads.php?do=file&fileid=2305

Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

I've added a form-fill version of the character sheet now. No calculations at this point. Next up - spell sheet.

That's great - I'm happily surprised anyone remembers that sheet! Hopefully this one serves you well.

Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

I have just uploaded Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet to the downloads area. This landscape folded character booklet is designed to keep essential information on the first panel while keeping table to a minimum. It is redesigned from the runner-up submission to the character sheet...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it)

My excitement is growing too. During the run up to 4e I put together the Pre-Release Rules Compendium with the help of the community (if anyone remembers it!), so a much different launch for me from last time. As fun as hunting for scraps was, having the Playtest was infinitely better. Though...

D&D 5E (2014) After first Next playtest session... a few questions.

I have another question. Hope you don't mind me jumping in. Can you use Whirlwind attack And two weapon fighting at the same time? A character surrounded by 4 enemies with 2 martial damage die and a second weapon could attack them all, with a -2 penalty to all attacks and both damage die spent?

I want to see one book

I'd still like the traditional 3 book model, but I would divide the books into tiers (heroic, paragon, epic), so in the end there are 9 books. I know I know - heresy to suggest 9 books, but by the time you get PHB 1-3, DMG 1-2, and MM 1-x, you are getting close anyway. The reason I want them...

Suggest Your "Rule of Three" Questions for Next Week (4/17)

Gamma World and the Adventure System board games were a place to explore mechanics outside of the main D&D line, something like Saga Edition was for 4e. What insights were gained that may translate into D&DN?

D&D 5E (2014) The Role of Dice in Next

I have no problem with dice, and I agree that it is a way to emulate character skill vs player skill. However, I want the mechanics that go along with the dice roll to be flexible and straight forward. If I have to look it up on a table, I don't want it. If I have to wait for a player to add...

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

I'll be very interested to see how they balance an "adventure" based game vs an encounter based game. The problem with adventure based games in earlier additions were things like: - only the last combat feels challenging because only then are you low on resources. The rest are trivial. - if...
