    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I really dislike the spell index and the lack of classes in the spell descriptions. For example, they could have done something like this with the spell headers: Absorb Elements 1st-level abjuration [Drd, Rgr, Sor, Wiz] That would have made it really easy to tell which classes can cast a...

D&D 5E What are the 3 best cantrips a Tomelock can choose?

That's true, but then you're spending two cantrips just to have a decent melee attack. Is it really worth it?

D&D 5E What are the 3 best cantrips a Tomelock can choose?

Blade Ward has some value when combined with Armor of Agathys. Taking half damage means the AoA lasts twice as long and has more opportunities to inflict retaliatory damage. I wouldn't generally recommend it, but it is worth noting.

D&D 5E What are the 3 best cantrips a Tomelock can choose?

I'm surprised by how many people are recommending Shillelagh. It gives you a 1d8 + Cha mod. melee weapon attack. That sounds decent at 1st level, but it doesn't scale! You don't get extra attacks, so it never gets any better than that! Every other attack cantrip in the game scales with level...

    D&D 5E Treantmonk's Guide to Everything Xanathar

I have enjoyed your guide, as always, Treantmonk. A few observations: Cause Fear: I don't think this spell should be red. Frightened is a pretty potent debuff for a 1st level spell. Although Tasha's Hideous Laughter's effects are more debilitating, it doesn't work on creatures with Int of 4 or...

D&D 5E 5E: The Best and the Worst

Biggest Dislike: Not being able to choose what you summon with a summoning spell. Favorite Thing: Bounded Accuracy.

D&D 5E Warlock Magic Item Christmas Wish list

The Ring of Spell Storing is also a great item for warlocks. If you take a short rest with an unused spell slot, you can store a spell in the ring for later use. Other spellcasters can also store spells in it for you. If you have a wizard in your party, for example, he could store 5 castings of...

    D&D 5E Planar Binding

It doesn't extend the duration, but it does prevent the elemental from leaving the circle, even by planar travel. Thus, the magic circle should prevent it from disappearing when the conjure spell ends. Magic circle is specifically mentioned in the planar binding spell, after all. I don't think...

    D&D 5E Warlock 1/long rest Invocations

WotC was obviously worried that certain spells would be too powerful with the short rest recharge mechanic that warlocks use, and so they made those spells 1/day invocations. However, I think they were being a bit too cautious. The thing that disappoints me about these invocations is that they...

    D&D 5E Planar Binding

Holy thread necromancy, batman. I made that post 2 years ago. But anyway, here we go. You cast conjure elemental. One round (6 seconds later), you begin casting planar binding. This means that the conjured elemental disappears 6 seconds before you finish casting planar binding. There is a way...

    D&D 5E Is Warlock broken?

I'm joining this discussion a bit late, but there's something I'd like to add regarding the warlock's spell slots. There are quite a few spells that don't scale with higher level slots, such as detect thoughts, misty step, suggestion, hypnotic pattern, Evard's black tentacles, etc. When a...

    D&D 5E I Told Ya So 2014!! (or not)

Bards are stuck with the spells they know (except for being able to exchange a single spell each time they level). Wizards can prepare different spells each and every day. That is a big advantage for the wizard in versatility. Bards learn 22 spells by level 20. A 20th level wizard can prepare 27...

D&D 5E Warlock Spells - PHB page 106 - slot level maxes at 5th; pg 210 lists spells to 9th level

I disagree that the warlock's 6th-8th level spells aren't very good. Mass suggestion, forcecage, plane shift, demiplane, dominate monster, feeblemind, etc. are some pretty amazing spells. I'd take the warlock's high level spell list over the cleric's any day!

D&D 5E Warlock Spells - PHB page 106 - slot level maxes at 5th; pg 210 lists spells to 9th level

What is wrong with high level warlocks? Warlocks have the exact same number of high level spells per day that other spellcasters do until 19th-20th level, and after that, other spellcasters only get 1 more 6th and 7th level spell per day than warlocks do. Warlocks are also getting more...

D&D 5E Eldritch Blast Mulitclass Clarification

It's no more odd than a 16th level character taking the Skilled feat and suddenly learning 3 new skills with a proficiency bonus of +5, and being better than a 10th level character that's been practicing those skills from the beginning. One way of looking at it is that higher level characters...

D&D 5E Warlock Spells - PHB page 106 - slot level maxes at 5th; pg 210 lists spells to 9th level

I'd say that anyone that gets 9th level spells qualifies as a "full caster." You don't see paladins or rangers casting spells like true polymorph. Warlocks are different from traditional spellcasters, but they're no less powerful overall. The main edge normal spellcasters have over warlocks is...

D&D 5E Warlock Spells - PHB page 106 - slot level maxes at 5th; pg 210 lists spells to 9th level

There are, by my count, three creatures in the entire game that are immune to eldrtich blast: helmed horrors (which are immune to force damage), and Rakshasas and Tiamat (which are immune to all low level spells). I don't think warlocks have to worry about being ineffective very often. [Edit] I...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

I think it's intentional that these spells can be disrupted. IMO, it's an important part of balancing certain spells. In past editions, if an enemy spellcaster dominated someone in your party, there wasn't anything the non-spellcasters in the party could do about it, short of killing the caster...

D&D 5E Warlock and Repelling Blast

RAW, no, you can't dispel a spell if its duration is instantaneous, even if it has lingering effects. The rules state: "Many spells are instantaneous. The spell harms, heals, creates, or alters a creature or an object in a way that can’t be dispelled, because its magic exists only for an...
