    D&D (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

My Guesses: Barbarian: Berserker, Totem (I could see them renamed Wildheart), Storm Herald (needs a rework, and is a cool concept), and Wild Magic Fighter: Champion, Battle Master, Eldritch Knight, Cavalier/something completely new Wizard: Evoker, Illusionist, Necromancer, Abjurer Warlock...

D&D 5E Planescape, Bigby, Phandelver and the Deck of Many Things: Covers & Details Revealed!

The Book of Many Things is going to be a boxed set as well (I don't recall them telling us that before). We get the main book, a deck of cards, and an 80 page book to help you use the cards.

D&D 5E Planescape, Bigby, Phandelver and the Deck of Many Things: Covers & Details Revealed!

Planescape, as described, sounds very similar in content to the original campaign boxed set. It had 64 pages on the planes, 96 on Sigil and the Outlands, a ~30 page monster book, and a player book that was, I believe 30-34 pages. This has a 96 page book on Sigl/the Outlands (with player options...

D&D 5E Check Out Some (Minor) Monster Reveals From Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

This looks great! Pretty much a mirror to Fizban's, which is not a complaint. I noticed this release date is August 15th (at least on Wizards' website). I think that means we'll be seeing four books in a 5 month window?

    D&D (2024) New Survey Results | Druid & Paladin | Unearthed Arcana | D&D

My hope is they aren't too restrictive on those smite spells. I think the Cleric should definitely have access to at least some of them. I'd like paladins to at least be able to smite with thrown weapons. A more developed template system for wild shape should work. Instead of land, air and...

D&D 5E Check Out Some (Minor) Monster Reveals From Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

I know that this books is probably around 2+ months off, but I'm surprised we haven't seen more images leak (particularly on the miniatures end). While I suspect the focus will be on the "true" giants, I'm hoping this book covers giantkin like Ogres, Trolls, Goliaths, Firbolg, Verbeeg, Fomorian...

D&D 5E Check Out Some (Minor) Monster Reveals From Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

I could see some creatures from Monsters of the Multiverse being reprinted in the new MM. Not to fill space, but rather to move some important monsters into the core books. But I'm guessing it will be a rare thing if they do it at all. I'm excited to see more of Glory of the Giants. These...

    D&D (2024) Hex fix

I do like the idea of subclasses altering Hex (I liked this in 4e with Curse as well).

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I'd like to see Weapon Adept moved up from 13 to 7, and Weapon Expert either removed altogether or put at level 3. Also - Indomitable is now awesome. I think it would be great if you could use it for failed ability checks.

D&D 5E WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

I see what you guys are saying, but I'm pretty sure it's the slavery and its sequale (like muls) that are the problem. I don't agree with that stance, as the slavers are the bad guys, but they (WotC) have been beaten up for the inclusion of slavery even in that context.

    Matt Colville weighs in.

So the $30 sub number is a coincidence? Weird. If the WotC VTT is a $30 sub then it would need to be really, really nice. And even then, many people just wouldn't be able to afford (or justify) it.

The faked slide was also specifically about D&D Beyond. We don't know what their VTT plans are, but that subscription number is coming from that hoax.

I certainly see the idea that 4e was meant to be more "MMO" friendly - in that it would lend itself better to an adaptation. But that's not the same thing as changing D&D into an MMO. Now what their plans are past 1D&D I can't really even guess. It's a wild stretch to take what we've seen in...

    Matt Colville weighs in.

Some of this hang-wringing is reminding me of the transition from 2e to 3e and 3.5e to 4e. People thought WotC was going to change D&D into a card game in the late 90's. Then they thought they were going to turn it into an MMO when 4e was in development. None of that was true. Now, you might not...

Wait - that's crazy?! Someone went through his trash looking for .... I guess a discarded notebook?

    Matt Colville weighs in.

I listened to all of that and did not come away with the idea they WotC was out of the book business and in to Loot Boxes. As long as they continue to publish books, which is what One D&D is currently playtesting, I'm not sure I can really get all that worked up about the potential for...

    Matt Colville weighs in.

Where are we getting "loot boxes" from the One D&D playtest? I feel like commenters, in this instance Mr. Colville, either know something I don't, or are interpreting some statements from WotC differently.

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

⁸ I keep seeing references to Loot Boxes and so forth. This really doesn't jibe with the One D&D playtest or its stated goal of producing new core rulebooks. Colville's prediction here is pretty grim, but if this is the plan then I'm not seeing it.

D&D General WotC Reveals New Information and Covers for 'Keys from the Golden Vault'

The lack of promotion for this book is weird. I know we're attributing this to the OGL controversy, and that might be the reason, but we would typically have seen something about this even before the leak. Radiant Citadel was previewed in March of 2022!

D&D 5E Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

I'm most interested in Planescape. I get the concern over format, but Planescape won't have pages and pages of (admittedly cool) ships. But all of these releases sound fun. Seems like lots of adventure material, which I use even if I don't run the adventure itself - traps, puzzles and maps are...
