So what does that make someone who prefers the "continuation"/reset that Paizo did for 3.5?

Wow, we have more HERO players here than I thought. I'll ask here then: IF someone is already fairly heavily invested in GURPS material, what would HERO offer that GURPS doesn't? Conversely, what does HERO do worse then GURPS 4th?

Lets make it 5. I started with VII, but find IX, X, and Tactics to be far superior.

Right now, 4E. I really, really wish it was GURPS, but c'est la vie. We may be trying out some nWoD soon, though.

What makes you think the 4E books were shipped in from China? I vaguely recall Rouse stating they were printed in the USA.

What KM said. I vastly preferred Tidus and Zidane to Cloud and Squall in terms of sympathy, and about on par with Terra. (Vaan was terrible, though; I've never seen a "main"character with so little characterization in an RPG). And yes, that laugh is probably the single worst piece of voice...

GURPS is the only one I've tried, and it's my favorite system. I want to try Savage Worlds (hopefully soon!) and Hero (not until the release of 6E, is that this GenCon or next?), though, when I get the chance.

Nope. 4E GURPS for me, with 4E D&D and nWoD (face it, it's all one game) below, then probably WHFRP or something.

This is totally eyeballing it, but one seems fine to me. It might help if we knew what the encounters are, even generally. If the 5 is a solo, you may want to consider adding more.

Just off the top of my head, add Paizo, Palladium Games, and Fantasy Flight Games to that list. Probably Hero Games, too. (FFG are the ones in control of WHFRP and WH40KRP, right?)
