    Question about Black Dragon

In addition to giving most of my PC's +1 weapons/implements by the dragon fight, I knocked 2 points off of all the defenses. In retrospect, the weapons might have been too much and I would recommend 2 points from all defenses or 1 point if you plan on distributing some magic items.

    Using skills in combat

In general, there's no reason you can't use any of your skills in combat. That said, I don't believe that any of the skills are intended to be "combat skills". Acrobatics isn't intended to be the new "tumble", but a creative description and successful check might allow a PC to grab a...

    How will you handle this?

You have 3 options: :1: Get her interested in playing something else. This isn't hard, you can make it similar as the Feypact Warlock or Nature Cleric mentioned earlier, or a ranger-type if she's less set on spell casting. You can supplement this choice with some magic items later tailored...

    Dragonborn MAD

The way to get mileage out of your Dragonborn is rather to choose a class that doesn't need Strength. There was already a dynamic in the game that encouraged raising a single one of each paired stat (str/con, dex/int, wis/cha). The dragonborn con reliance (assuming there's no way to "re-route"...

D&D 4E DnD 4e Previews...What Would You Like To See?

You guys are expecting too much from rituals. They probably haven't previewed them because they're just not interesting enough to preview. Expect rituals to be as exciting as material components were in 2e and 3.5e with the added amazing aspect of required out of combat casting time! Woot.

    Down to At-Wills

This is a very short-lived problem specific to low level hero's fighting SOME solo mobs. Instead of discussing when it is a problem, here's a list of when it is NOT a problem: 1) Mid and high level combatants: They have plenty of abilities to choose from. 2) When fighting multiple...

    D&D 4E 4e mid encounter fatigue

I think this may be a problem specific to the massive-hp solo fights like the dragon. I definately ran into it, but I think it was a result of the dragon being too fat and the refreshing encounter abilities not being "event changing". If the fear ability had been refresh :6: or the dragon had...

A Skill Challenge highlights the night...

Awesome challenge! I probably would have required fewer successes for a task like that, but sounds like it was alot of fun to play out! :)

Re-opening an old can: Warlocks and Angels

Currently, warlocks don't make pacts with Astral Sea entities. Both Demons and Fey are members of adjacent realms. On the otherhand, clerics and paladins DO make such "pacts".

A Skill Challenge highlights the night...

The "roll initiative" command is so ingrained in the player psyche that it brings an immediate feeling of expectation to the table and re-directs attention back to the GM. Since most of the skill challenge ruleset seems to be bringing structure to things, I like that. You are completely right...

    D&D 4E Life Points - 4E Mechanic?

The idea seems actually pretty solid even if it's no longer in the rules. I played a game with TWO healers and the potential for punching-bag-style tanking was definately there. A system like this is obviously meant to prevent exactly this where the fighter drops unconscious and is healed...

A Skill Challenge highlights the night...

After rereading, I remembered that when we played I changed the gender of the kid in the fire from when I wrote it up the encounter originally and failed to change a few pronouns. I went ahead and edited it.

A Skill Challenge highlights the night...

I had the opportunity to run Raiders of Oakhurst a couple of weeks ago with my normal gaming group to test the waters of 4e rules. Everyone had a great time (despite some bad dice-karma on the part of the rogue), but due to quite a bit of role-playing and snack breaks we never quite got to the...

    Disarming a character from powers?

Feystep allows you to teleport through features that aren't in the Feywild. Have the jail in a natural cavern (or an unnatural one) and it may be similarly restrictive in both planes. As for restricting spellcasting, you could limit daily powers by assuming sleep deprivation, but that won't...

    Making your own power cards

Any chance Troll (or anyone) has a working set of the premade's powers? It doesn't need to be perfect, just wanted to try them out in a game. Thanks!

    D&D 4E 4e Two Weapon Fighting Power

It might be something as simple as a rule that allows you to roll twice on your weapon attacks and pick the higher when dual wielding. edited: even simpler than the power I previously posted.
