I agree with most of the folks here - don't give them any magical item at first level. It makes it all the more real and "human"...on top of that, it adds that level of gain and excitement when they finally "earned" their keeps. However, if it is really necessary to give something, give them...

Can't wait for this mega adventure ("Out of the Abyss") and the campaigner on the FR ("Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide") but I just hope that these don't fall flat like the previous books barring the cores (ok, Princes of the Apocalypse wasn't that bad but I already set my bar high after the cores..)

Well, I can't wait to read it but I hope that it has tons of details, lead-ins, backgrounds, factions, secrets, etc and not simply fluff stuff that is too superficial and next to useless...keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

I did... I did...for good copies of what they are selling now on eBay or Amazon although these modules didn't sell at that price when it was out originally (I know cos I bought them then and lost the whole lot when I moved house) Would I pay $40 for Hoard of the Dragon Queen now if I had read...

Perfectly doable. If the person is fully dedicated to writing that module. Without overtime, that a total of 40*20 (used to be 40 hours work week for 5 days) = 800 hours. A 32 page module, interspaced with images, NPC stats, table content, maps and references will mean approximately 10k to 15k...

I think the graphics look great...the feel is exactly what it is like that many years ago...ah...the feeling of nostalgia. However, I agree with EthanSental...age has caught up with me and I no longer have the stamina nor the drive to play several hours in a go nor continuously for several days...

This book brought back such memories..the awe, excitement and trepidation when I acquire this book (second-hand) and secreted it home...running my hands loving over the hardcover and turning the pages, all sensory (except taste) satisfied.

Why the C&D from WoTC?! Miguel isn't selling them and making a profit from it. Moreover, it is a hobby and he is not doing this full-scale neither...I will suggest to Miguel to just change twitch the appearance and call it something else...owlbear? No problem, bird-wierd.
