D&D 5E Too many cooks (a DnDN retrospective)

I'm intrigued by the standardised spell-casting statement, could be good, as the Wizard seems a tad messy/scattered in the last packet.

    D&D 5E D&DNext - Frankenstein or Butterfly?

Is is totally relevant: 4th Ed.

    D&D 5E Simplified 5e, Maneuvers n' stuff

Exactly, the original Bard wasn't arcane at all, but a Fighter/Thief/Druid (bard "under druidical tutelage").

D&D 5E What do you want out of 5E/Next?

Something like all of that; a basic chassis, which they already have, with which you can slap things onto; I already find 5th Ed the easiest Ed to date for conversions, from all editions (I have already converted some 4th Ed monsters, 1st and 3rd Ed classes, spells, etc).

    D&D 5E D&DNext - Frankenstein or Butterfly?

Me too, was very jazzed with the 1st packet, but with that last one, I suddenly smelled something, and I'm not sure I like it. Maybe it's the classes I'm so keen on in the latest.

    D&D 5E D&DNext - Frankenstein or Butterfly?

Well we know that Star Wars Saga Edition and Tome of Battle were snapshots of 4th Ed design at certain points in time, I personally wish they had gone more with the SWSE approach, and less with the ToB route.

    Just call it Choad.

D&D 5E What Wizards can do to make D&D Next successful.

Yes, and we all know what happened to New Coke...

    D&D 5E Mike Mearls's Tweets

Have they talked about reducing HP as well? I have no problem with no ability modifier to damage, especially for monsters. But I am not thrilled with Expertise, it's pretty cool, but I am already getting dubious of its future.

    D&D 5E Mike Mearls's Tweets

I especially like no ability modifier damage bonus for monsters, just roll dice, like pre-3rd Ed. Apparently one of the 3rd designers (Jonathan Tweet?) regrets adding ability modifier damage to monster attacks. Now I just want them to drop the word "Ki".

D&D 4E 4e Encounter Design... Why does it or doesn't it work for you?

I always gauge (eyeball) encounters I design around the specific party in question, I find the challenge guidelines lacking in every edition to date.

How do you like your HP to increase?

Ah, yeah, maybe I am interpreting it incorrectly, same with ability scores: roll, and take array/point buy if your rolls are lower than array/point buy.

How do you like your HP to increase?

I like the current 5th Ed system of roll, and it it's higher than the default, you take it (a fighter always gets at least 6 hp, but has a chance to get more).

    D&D 5E Review design goals

The last playtest packet has me worried for classes, but I am loving the core of 5th Ed (bounded accuracy rocks). But, I have already done a lot of conversions (from all editions), so one thing they have achieved, IME, is ease of conversions. You can almost drop some things in whole cloth.

D&D 4E WotC this is something you absolutely cannot screw up in 5E like you screwed up in 4E

It seems at this point if 4th Ed took a wee in a martini glass, you would take no umbrage, is there anything you do not adore about 4th Ed? There has to be some objectivity...

D&D 5E Too many cooks (a DnDN retrospective)

Yes, that seems the deal in 4th Ed: 4 classes (roles), choose features and powers; go. I am already getting resentful (disillusioned?) of Expertise (dice).

D&D 5E Remove stat bonus from damage

Are abilities adding to magic attacks, I thought spells now have set damage?

D&D 5E Too many cooks (a DnDN retrospective)

I second this, the classes in the latest playtest packet seem to have taken a turn, wizards are now thinly disguised AEDU. At least I always have the 1st packet (the best one).

D&D 5E Remove stat bonus from damage

    Yeah, for Str, Dex, and Con you get: 9-12: +0 13-15: +1 16-17: +2 18: +3 I really like that.

D&D 5E Is it finally time..

We briefly used armour damage points from the 2nd Ed Complete Fighter's Handbook (had some interesting ideas).
