D&D (2024) Predictions for Playtest packet 7's arrival

If we're doing predictions, then they'll offer up revisions for the Warrior group, including revisions to the monk. Somehow WotC will still make a monk that sounds cool, but is pretty ineffective in actual play.

D&D (2024) Asians Represent: "Has WotC Fixed the D&D Monk?"

That is extremely generous. I agree that WotC definitely doesn't know what 'martial arts' is and should bring in a consultant that does. It really wouldn't be hard to find some people that practice some form of martial art and play D&D. I know several, including myself and I live in a small...

    D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

I don't disagree, but the Push and Topple masteries seem to scream martial arts to me.

D&D General A friend of mine has joined A 5E Dnd Group, has decided to play A Robin Hood Style character and wants to know what people think of his character

Wondering about the alignment choice myself. Robin Hood needs a Sherriff of Nottingham or Prince John to push him to be an outlaw and history would paint them as the Lawful Evil axis in Robin Hood's story. Robins is more Chaotic Good, or Chaotic Neutral - steal from the rich, give to the poor...

D&D 5E Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

Currently? None. I'm curious about the Giants book though. If the reviews do well and I'm still playing D&D a year from now, I may pick it up. I'm surprised at how many people are interested in Planescape after the Spelljammer release last year.

D&D 5E Will you continue to give WotC D&D your $$$

I canceled my BnBDeyond sub, but honestly, I haven't bought many books lately. Fizban's was the last one I bought, though I did buy the Dragonlance one for my wife for xmas. I have spent more on third party content in the last few years. I have enough 5E material to keep me going for years if...

Has anyone cancelled their D&D Beyond subscription as a protests over the OGL?

I sincerely plan to, but I'm hoping to finish my current campaign first. I may have to tell players to download their characters and go back to paper.

D&D General Do you like LOTS of races/ancestries/whatever? If so, why?

I pretty much feel the same. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with keeping it at about a half dozen (humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, halflings, goblins). I do like the move away from 'half' ancestries and the ability to customize your lineage. However, I'm also not about to stand in the way of one...

D&D 5E DM's: How Do You Justify NPC's Having Magic/Abilities That Don't Exist in the PHB?

As many others have said, there is no justification needed. The magic presented in the PHB is for PCs and is largely there in an 'adventuring context' - it is completely fine for NPCs to play by different rules. I assume there are all kinds of magical devices and/or spells that NPCs and...

D&D (2024) Subclasses should start at 1st level

How about you pick your Class Group at level 1, your Class at level 3 & your subclass at level 5. :ROFLMAO:

    D&D (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

I don't like it, but I would like to know more about the monster recharge mechanic they mentioned. So few monsters have that at the moment. I get what they are trying to do - avoid crit kills at low level - but maybe that is better served as an optional rule in the new DMG.

    D&D (2024) 2024 PHB Race discussion

I was thinking of tagging racial features as major and minor. Choose major features from one parent and minor features from another. That's just off the top of my head - if it seems unbalanced then it might end up '2 from this list, 1 from that list' kinda thing. If somebody really wants...

    D&D (2024) D&D 5.5e, will you get it?

OK, having just watched the interview with Jeremy Crawford (found here), I have renewed faith in what WotC is planning for 2024. I guess the UA documents over the coming months will do a lot to cement or further shift my expectations.

    D&D (2024) D&D 5.5e, will you get it?

At this point, I have no plans to buy any further WotC books. I have been pretty unimpressed by their offerings lately. I think LevelUp & MCDM are putting out more interesting material and attempting more interesting game design. I reserve the right to change my mind and buy Greyhawk and/or...

    D&D 5E Relocated PC approaches

If you've already seen the character and feel it is balanced, then there shouldn't be a problem. Obviously, checking with your other players is a good idea. If you are worried about messing with the table dynamics, then I would recommend a one shot where everyone uses a new character just to...

D&D 5E Buffing monks: with simple changes.

I like it. In a previous campaign of mine, the monk found a magical ring that increased Ki by their Wisdom modifier. It required attunement, so there was a cost associated with the buff. Alternatively, you could remove the Ki cost from some abilities and make it a 'Proficiency Bonus times per...

Dragonlance DRAGONLANCE LIVES! Unearthed Arcana Explores Heroes of Krynn!

This is the smartest thing I have read today. However, I expect WotC (Hasbro really) thinks they can make more money by holding their inherited IP close to their chest.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Whenever this or one of the other NuTSR threads appears near the top of the first page of the forum, I cringe a little and think to myself "Oh FFS, what did they do now. Don't look, don't look, don't look." Yet hear I am.

D&D 5E How powerful to make a hireling

Yes, the hirelings could demand 1 share of the treasure between them. That is, if there are 4 PCs, they each get a fifth of the treasure and the hirelings get a fifth to split amongst them.

D&D 5E How powerful to make a hireling

The Bard statblock has healing word & you could swap out one of the other 1st level spells for animal friendship.
