D&D 5E Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Also, Cook just got divorced/separated and moved, both of which put your stress level through the roof and make it harder to stay in control.

D&D 5E Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

I agree that it's no big deal. People are allowed to express their opinions freely at Reddit and it doesn't hurt anything. Although a forum with threaded comments and upvotes doesn't have to worry about negativity derailing a whole thread.

D&D 5E Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Are you referring to the one where he put "different ability scores by gender" in the poll and Mike Mearls posted a retraction for it?

    Reach Weapons - a thought...

I like the idea of getting rid of the spiked chain (which isn't a real weapon) and replacing it with the kusari-gama, just because I'm all for making monk weapons a bit better.

Is it a standard action to hold onto a net?

It is worth noting that Pathfinder changed this rule so you do need to actively maintain the grapple. And grapple does require you to sacrifice a lot of other actions (AoOs, weapon attacks, your move, your ability to attack other targets). I feel pretty good about requiring some focus on the net...

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

Hee hee, baby cloakers. Or cacodemons wearing capes. I've got a Word document setup for printing custom counters, I enjoy Googling for art to use. Here's a screenshot of the ones I used for the cloakers. I print them out, fold them till they stand up and paperclip them to the monster's index...

[DCC RPG] I have the pdf of the finished rules and I’m glad I do

I don't feel bad for not figuring that out -- it's all-but-invisible among the other tiny identical links and everyone knows web surfers don't look at menus. Even once I hit the page I clicked the wrong button because it's just small images and you have to guess at the title. I would supply a...

    Selling a 3.X collection

I've searched this topic before, that's the best answer I've ever seen.

[DCC RPG] I have the pdf of the finished rules and I’m glad I do

I don't see any way to buy on that page (or even preorder, or a release date). Did you guys just get it early because you playtested it?

    Updated Search Feature

Yeah, my post was about how to automate that so you can type "en search terms" in the address bar instead of having to type out the "site:enworld.org" stuff. I'm addicted to short searches, I have "gi" to search Google Images, "pf" for the pathfinder SRD, "bg" for Bible verses, "w" for...

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

I didn't mean that it was pointless because it duplicated the concealment from shadows but that I wouldn't want to spend a standard action for such a short-term benefit. I guess you might as well try it though since it's at-will.

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

That's a change too! Before, Shadow Shift was "effective only in shadowy areas". It also wasn't a free action, so the 1d4-round blur effect was very pointless.

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

I thought that since the monster text didn't change, it would be relevant to the Pathfinder forum. Whoops. Although I guess it's relevant to know that engulf is even less useful now than it was before.

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

The +4 bonus text is still there in Pathfinder. I think you're right, though, googling "bonus on the attack roll". So it would work out to a +8 to hit, right? -4 for a natural weapon in grapple, +4 special bonus, +8 regular BAB + Str + size bonus. I don't think maintaining a grapple takes an...

How does a Cloaker's Engulf ability work?

From the PF SRD, The 3.5 Tactics section said Engulf is usually used versus a lone opponent, but it seems like the main danger of it comes only when you have other party members hitting the cloaker. The bite deals 1d4+2 damage, and is far from an auto-hit. (I believe the "+4 bonus on its...

Would like some help evaluating an item

The "Christmas present" refers to the DM picking out something he hopes you'll like. The reasons it never works out definitely include the fact that many parties expect you to give up all your other treasure to pay back for the one "good" one you got. Who wants a Christmas present you have to...

Would like some help evaluating an item

This reminds me of my "I don't like my Christmas present!" thread. Basically it's near-impossible for a GM to give out treasure that actually makes a player happy, due to Monty Haul fears, wealth by level tables, and party sharing needs. It's sad but true, and I haven't found a fix for it yet.

Tell me about concealment and spells

Sure the SRD section on concealment doesn't mention spells, but it doesn't mention them for total concealment either and we know that matters.

Tell me about concealment and spells

Nobody ever answered that last question in this old thread. I want to know if 20% concealment works against targeted spells like Charm Person (not rays).
