+1 Caster Levels

How bad would it be to allow Rangers and Paladins to get +1 Caster level for prestige classes that give new spell chart and spells. Like the Vigilant from R&R or the Animal Lord from MotW, or Hnter of the Dead from DotF?

Paladins nad Rangers spell casting ability is not that strong to begin with. They only go up to fourth level spells, they cast as one half their class level, and their spells lists are rather limited.

Ya, I guess I phrased that oddly. A 6th level Ranger/5th level Wolf lord would cast spells as an 11th level ranger. Meaning their caster level is 5 and they get one 1st, one 2nd, and zero 3rd plus and wisdom bonus.

My main reason is to allow people to get the higher spells of both these classes while taking a prestige class. I think the magic they have at higher levels is important and makes more sense then all these Prestige classes that offer so few spells.

I changed all of the spell progressions into +1 caster levels if there was an existing spellcasting class provided the prestige class is a continuation of their previous training. It doesn't make any sense to me to have a class that is essentially a more speciallized for of what they already were. The PsHB was horrible with this.

It hasn't seemed to unbalance things at all.

There are PrC that already has +1 of caster level for each new level gained, someone with just few, others that gives a new spell casting table. For the ones who had created them, that was a way to balnce all PrC (sniper do gain a lot more than geomancer in terms of new abilities). How we should manage it all? Who will take a PrC that already had +1 of caster level and now gains nothing when the others boots up?

My point is that for classes desinged for either the Cleric or the Paladin or Ranger that give +1 Caster Level, the Cleric gets a bigger boost for that caster level then either the Ranger or the Paladin.

So, stronger PrCl offer their own spell progression (ussually up to 4th) to counter act that. But Paladins and Rangers spells only go up to fourth anyone. So, I want them to be the exception. A Ranger or Paladin can choose to either have the spell chart as listed or get +1 caster Level.

Generally speaking, PrC's with their own progression charts also have different spell lists - you may want to offer the option to use one list or the other, or possibly merge the two.

Ok, now i understand:cool: Yesterday night i didn't realized the mechanism:( But after 8 hours of sleep and after have memorized my spells (comprehension of languages is a must for being here!)
i say that the idea is good. My paladin was asking me something similar, but he hadn't his ideas clear, and i've rejected his proposal. Now i can propose him something, thanx Crothian

It's okay, I understand with all the people from around the world that copmmunications is sometimes a little skewed, especially since us Americians enjoy our slang and pop culture references. :D

BTW, What does your Sig say?

Cheers to gnomes and to fays/to the (other) faerie creatures than walk (unnoticed) on to the streets.

It is a very old, traditional song: someone remember all things magic in his country (home of saints and travelers), its smells, colors, tastes, music when still far away from it, and cheers all this up...
