I saw the movie 10,000 B.C. Saturday night. It was just a visual spectacle and not much else. Characters died and I did not care much and characters succeeded and I did not care much. But it was fun to look at and full of attractive people, and more minorities than is normal for a Hollywood picture. Honestly, I thought the origins of the villains, which was only a throwaway line, was one of the most interesting things in the movie in story terms. But it was pretty.

Calling it a straight fantasy would arguably have worked better as a genre label than calling it a historical epic.

I wonder what mammoth tastes like.

How much you want to bet that if they make a sequel, they'll call it 10,001 BC, even though that's counting the wrong way, to avoid "confusing the market"?

There was supposedly some sort of 'revelation' as to who the pyramid/temple was dedicated to, or the 'god's' origins, or something? Is this true? What is the revelation?

This would actually make a good spin-off TV show, like the Stargate shows.

I would have been so much happier if the ruler had been a serpentman or alien.

Terror bird scene definitely felt like a nod to the raptor attack in JP2.

Overall, i would have liked there to had been some more 'supernatural' happenings in there movie.

Now tactfully, this could be linked to how the Aztec culture was expecting

gods to return one day. They too were founded by the 'Atlanteans'.

Now if one is less tactful, it could be viewed as commentary on "one group" always keeping "other groups" down.

And if one wants to go for the godwin, then one could easily bring up a certain art student's ideas about a 'master race' and how the movie goes along with that.

Movie was ok, but mostly for the visuals, yep.

And the name of the hero is just utterly stupid.

From what I've read, it's actually more inspired by Conan, or REH's prehistory. Which in turn was heavily inspired by Theosophy. OTOH, so was what you are alluding to.
