That doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun for the players. Save or petrify. Half the players can stack dice for the next 20-60 minutes.

Also, there's no lead up. Do the PCs know there are basilisks in the area? Why are the basilisks attacking them? It takes more than this to create a fun and epic encounter.

3) Four PCs vs. a warship.

An airship with cannons and a crew of three hundred descends from the sky and starts shooting. The crew hopes to loot the PCs' bodies for their epic treasure. Only the captain and a few officers are a match for the party in a fight, but the PCs will probably destroy the ship first.

5) A giant clockwork behemoth attacks the city. The monstrosity walks on six legs and has four arms; two end in giant crushing claws, the other arms end with a wide array of tools to grab people. It easily crumbles walls and brushes aside the city's defenses. As it moves into the city, it begins picking up people and placing them into compartments on its underbelly. Once is has people, destroying the thing will kills scores of innocents.

6? A 22 foot tall humanoid head appears, floating over the city forum. The severed head is enraged that the city residents are not having enough 'fun'. It has a powerful, long range psionic blast power (roll on 1e dmg table for effect result), as well as telekinesis and forcefield projection.
