D&D (2024) 13 Attacks a Round the Most You Can Get?

1000+ attacks is like the 20000 damage fireball.
There are 268. 5' cubes in a 20' Sphere
  • 4 pixies in each cube = 1,072 targets
  • 28 damage = 30,016 damage
  • 75% (save for half) = 22,512 damage

Very good guess.

And just to fill things out.
1813 pixies in a cone of cold.
8192 pixies in a Meteor swarm.

Seems far less likely than rolling an extra action on the wild surge table.

Without getting too far into the weeds, a PHB-only sorcerer can get 13 attacks per turn with just the scorching ray spell and the War Caster feat...and unlike the Fighter, the Sorcerer can do it at 12th level. All the sorcerer needs is a feat and the ability to cast 6th level spells.

No complicated builds or multiclassing, no multiple-round setups, no overwrought rules interpretations, no super-specific situations. Just a 12th level sorc with a feat, making 13 attack rolls in the same round.

Come to think of it, a Wizard can also make 13 attacks in a turn, and do it sooner than the Sorcerer (since wizards get 6th level spells at 11th level).

(Sorry, @tetrasodium. I know I'm making you sad over here. Turns out, making a dozen or more attacks per round is pretty easy.)

Make it 40k damage then.

Once;).

I wouldn't uses a level 6+ slot outside of dedicated blaster. Which is s sorcerer and hex via fae touched.

Ideally vs paralyzed foe.

Yep, just once. That was the challenge, though: make 13 attacks in a single round. The fighter can do it at 20th level, the sorcerer can do it at 12th, the wizard can do it at 10th.

But if you need to do it constantly for some reason, a 17th level sorcerer with eldritch blast (via the Magic Initiate feat) can still do it.
Action: 4 attacks with Eldritch Blast
Bonus action: 4 attacks with quickened Eldritch Blast.
Reaction: 4 attacks with Eldritch Blast (War Caster).
Haste: crossbow or whatever.

And if you're really into cheese, you can skip the Magic Initiate feat and get a two-level dip in warlock instead. Get that EB cantrip for free, and get the agonizing blast invocation to boot.

This character would annoy everyone at my table, and our DM would feed it to a beholder after the third combat scene and the rest of the party would help... but it can be done.

Sorlock as a reaction is harder to set up.

Fighter commanders strike, order cleric, dissonance whispers.

Whispers works with warcaster?

My son played basically that same character in a campaign where the DM had a homebrew rule that all cantrips were bonus actions (so what you wrote was achievable without metamagic). It wasn't annoying at all, his turns took like 30 seconds - roll a big handful of d20's, count up the crits/hits/misses, roll that many d10's, add it up, super easy

Thanks for the PM. So nothing there is a problem with Action Surge, just Volley & squeezing in a lot of enemies into the 10ft radius.
(Also since Volley doesn't exist in2024 it doesn't matter)

"How many targets can you hit with an AOE spell" is a completely different question from "how many attacks can you do". Conjure Volley isn't even a single attack roll, it's a saving throw. Also Action Surge doesn't let you do Conjure Volley twice since it is a magic action.

There is so much wrong with this answer even before the obvious issue that no DM ever puts 2048 pixies in a perfect cylinder for you to AOE
