1E/2E Drow Tentacle Rods: Have they been converted to 3E?

Forrester

First Post
Curious as to whether any new module, the FR supplements, or anything else out there has translated the good ole fashioned Tentacle Rods that Eclavdra used to use to whup the hell out of her opponents.

I remember hearing/reading about one translation, but it was quite lame -- something about the rod allowing the casting of Evard's Black Tentacles once a day.

Anyway -- anyone hear anything? Supposing not, I'd like to brainstorm about what they'd look like.

I think I saw them in the recent Drow issue of Dragon ... and I think that the rods in the ToEE are something different ... I'm not 100% sure, though.

Edit: What could Forrester, hater of all elves, destroyer of Evermeet, possibly want Drow rods for?

Knight -- to whup the (humanoid) PCs in my Against the Elves campaign, of course! :D

Okay, I'll bite. I don't have RttToEE, and I'd rather not buy it, only because I might end up as a player in it someday.

Also, I'm cheap. So what do the Lesser and Greater tentacle rods look like in the module? Can anyone give the specs? You don't have to give *every* detail . . . but most of them would be nice :).

One question I have is whether the tentacles have their own to-hit bonus, like they did in 1E, or whether it's now based on the BAB of the wielder.

Yes, they are indeed in the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil.

Weren't those rods actually Tharizduns Tentacle Rods, and not drow? If you mean the ones that for example one Hedrack uses..,

I always get my elder gods confused...

(mild spoiler alert for RttToEE)

If I recall correctly, the drow in D3 who used tentacle rods worshipped The Elder Elemental God (aka Purple Eye and Tentacle God). In RttToEE it is revealed that the EEG is actually an aspect of Tharizdun. A Drow house had broken off from Lloth and was worshipping the EEG/Tharizdun.

So the short answer is "Yes, the tentacle rods in RttToEE are the 3E versions of the tentacle rods in the 1st edition D series".
