2 Qs: metamagic, incantatrix, and archmage

Nope. The ability to swap out spells is class-level dependant, not caster-level dependant. Just as the "+1 caster level" ability doesn't count towards getting Wizard bonus feats, nor toward improving one's Familiar, it doesn't help the Sorceror/whatever swap out unwanted spells, either.

Hi gak,

Like you i'm building a new char that is going to be sorc 6 / incantatar 10 / archmage 4 .

The thing is i'm not used to casters so if you don't mind, could you post your char template especially you feat choices and explain why you took them ?

That would be a great help :)

Sorcerer

Well, he's still a work in progress...but feats are easy. Assuming non-human:

1) Sor 1 - Iron Will
3) Sor 3 - Metamagic (your choice)
6) Sor 6 - Skill Focus (spellcraft)
9) Sor 6/Inc 3 - Spell Focus (your choice)
12) Sor 6/Inc 6 - Spell Focus (your choice)
15) Sor 6/Inc 8/Arch 1 - ??
18) Sor 6/Inc 10/Arch 2 - ??

Your first level of Archmage will be at character level 15. Not much flexibility for feat choices. Or spell choices. You'll only know 6 spells of 5th level or higher and they must be from at least 5 schools.

Does anyone want to hazard suggestions on 3 5th, 2 6th, and 1 7th level spell from 5 schools? Remember, I'll have a banned school. (Probably necromancy, I tend to play Good characters.)

Conjuration: Teleport (5)
Evocation: Wall of Force (5)
Enchantment: Dominate Person or Feeblemind (5)
Transmutation: Disintegrate (6)
Abjuration: Greater Dispel Magic (6)
Abjuration: Spell Turning (7)

And don't forget that Incantatrix gies you bonus feats.

Of course, spells depend on what you have learned earlier... Anyways...

Abjuration - Greater Dispel Magic
Conjuration - Greater Teleport
Divination - Analyze Dweomer
Enchantment - Feeblemind
Evocation - Firebrand (Magic of Faerûn / Player's Guide to Faerûn)
Transmutation - Telekinesis

Next 7th level spell will then be:

Universal - Limited Wish

Yes, it is. (According to the Sage.)

Edit: Can't find a cite though.

Spell Focus()

One more question...

What to spell focus in?

As a sorcerer, I'm guessing the answer will be based upon what spells I pick.

Evocation - Good
Conjuration, Divination - Bad

Oh how I wish that were true. Unfortunately, unlike the red Wizard prestige class, the Incantatrix doesn't say you keep the spells you had already learned. It is just as if you had it dropped from being a specialist Wizard.

For what it's worth... WotC customer service agrees with me. ;)

Subject: [D&D 3.5] Player's Guide to Faerûn - Incantatrix / ERRATA

Hi!

Obviously it has been forgotten to detail what happens with spells already known, when choosing a prohibited school upon becoming an incantatrix.

I suppose (just like in 3.0) it works exactly as it does with the Red Wizard PrC from the DMG 3.5, right?

This topic should be addressed in the upcoming errata for the PGtF! Thank you!

Your assumption about the way that this is handled is correct. I'll pass your feedback to the appropriate staff members.

Thanks!
