2 questions about the Sudden metamagic feats

The sudden metamagic feats apply their effects when you cast a spell.

When creating an item, you "trigger the prepared spell, making it unavailable for casting during each day devoted to the wand’s creation." All the other item creation feats contain similar language.

You don't actually cast the spell, so there's nothing for the sudden feat to trigger off of.

Per the sage, you can use the sudden metamagic feats to meet item prerequisites, so you can use Sudden Maximize to create a scroll of Maximized Fireball. Doing so, however, is as expensive as doing it the old fashioned way... as if it were a 6th level spell.

BTW - For the same cost, take sudden maximize over sudden empower.

I've used sudden maximize and sudden empower in play, and I like them well enough. Not overly fantastic feats, but worth having.

Well there ya go. Thanks. :)

Welcome! It's the same reason that Augment Summoning doesn't apply to a scroll of Summon Monster 1 made by someone with the feat.

You might have an argument, though, if it's the character using the scroll that has the feat. :D

Has anyone used these? I've read they were originally in the mini's handbook. If you have, are they worth it?
My bad guys use 'em. They're especially nasty when combined with 9th level spells. Sudden Empowered, Sudden Maximized Time Stop was one I recently pulled. Buff-city!

It's also the same reason that Spell Focus doesn't apply to scrolls. Or a high ability score, for that matter. Why is nobody arguing, "I have an 18 intelligence, yet my scrolls have lower save DCs!"? It's the same issue.

Aside from Warmages who get them as bonus feats, no one in my play group ever taken it. It is mainly because Metamagic Rods do almost the same thing, 3 times a day.
