2 Wep Fighter with a Ring of Force Sheild...

Nyaricus

First Post
I have a PC in my group who planning to be a TWFer. If he has a ring of force sheild, can he make a full attack, use his quick draw feat to sheath a blade, and then activate his ring of force sheild all in one round? Is this even a good combo?

Thanks in advance :)

thanks :D My player actually decided to post, so he has a a thread now! Woot! Too bad it's the same as this one though :p

So, what can he do?
Carry a LOT of secondary weapons. Full attack, drop one weapon as a free action and activate the ring. On his next turn, quickdraw a secondary weapon, make full attack, drop a weapon, and activate the ring. Continue ad nauseam till you hit him :)

You could deactive the ring, ready your weapons (Free action), attack, reactivate the ring, and then quick draw your weapons again, if the GM allows it. There are only minor problems with this approach... for instance, if you make an attack that draws an AoO, you won't have your shield up while it happens. It's also likely that enemy archers will ready their shots to shoot you when your shield is down.

In general, you would be much better off with a +1 buckler. Even with -1 to hit, it's decent defense and causes very few problems. If you don't want to take Improved Buckler Defense, you can just wait until you can get access to an animated shield. Two Weapon Defense is also not a bad choice.

I don't understand why you are Quick Drawing your weapons again... your proposed sequence never has them leaving your hands after the attack?

Because the force shield created by the ring still needs to be wielded? I assume the shield is being dismissed on the character's turn so that they can quickdraw a weapon and actually fight two-weapon style.
Or something like that.
Seems silly to me. Just take a buckler with the applicable feats to use it.

Then there's a step missing from the sequence - his weapons are in hand at the point he reactivates the ring, in pawsplay's proposal.

I don't see anything stopping you from holding a weapon in your hand but not wielding it. Certainly, that applies to light shields and bucklers. Although a force shield can be wielded "as if it were a heavy shield," you can also choose not to wield it. It is weightless and encumbrance free. Further, aside from the fact that you can only not hold something in the same hand because "it is so heavy," the ring of force shield says nothing about imposing the penalties of a shield. As a matter of fact, is has no armor check penalty, and thus, I think we can safely conclude it has only the characteristics described in its entry.

Since it is not actually a large shield, I don't imagine you could bash with it. Bashing is something described under the item "large shield," which it is not.

The only thing you can't do is simultaneously wield the force shield and wield the weapon. The weapon does not preclude wearing a ring, and donning the ring does not require you to wield the shield or even activate it.

"Wielded as if it were a large shield" seems to mean "receive a +2 shield bonus to AC, but only if wielded." Because wielding a shield precludes wielding something else, you can't use the weapon.
