D&D 5E 2020 Release Speculation Thread

I crit!
As far as what’s coming, WotC watches sales on DMsGuild. So one way to influence WotC is buy stuff there. For instance they plan on supporting Eberron with adventures on the DMsGuild. Want more settings or more Eberron? Buy them.

I expect to see the following books in the next year or two, but in no particular order.

1. Remake of old Adventures compendium: Greyhawk, Planes, or based in less common regions.
2. DM side book: Mass warfare, vehicles, stronghold building, monsters, more Planes info.
3. Player Side Book: I think this one is going to be a compendium of other Forgotten Realms regions much like SCAG, with subclasses. It could be a Planes book, but I think it might be Kara-tur and Zakhara.
4. Adventure Book: Based on the new subclasses and what hasn't been covered in an adventure yet... I think its going to be a Great Old One style adventure in the Sea of Fallen Stars region. Im also seeing more Feywild stuff lately, so maybe Star Elves of Aglarond and the Abolethic Sovereignty?

Well, first, I expect any predictions I make to be wrong. So instead, here's what I want/would like:
  • Psionics
  • A Xanathar's 2, obviously not called that, but another major expansion of player material.
  • An adventure set in Eberron. Possibly reprint the series of 3.5 adventures, but ideally new material
  • More setting support. Dark Sun, another MTG world, etc.
  • Higher tier support. Maybe an adventure that gets up to higher levels

1. A source book that brings mass combat and many other things from Birthright and possibly brings Birthright into the forgotten realms.
2. Some old school adventures made new. Possibly Dragolance but could be in another setting with a non European culture. I’m trying to think of related classic adventures they haven’t done. I wouldnt be surprised if one of them had a crashed spaceship.
3. New adventure. Something in forgotten realms. If I were to guess l would say Icewind Dale, Moonshea, Comwryn, or one of the non-European cultures. I suspect an Arab or ancient Chinese setting.

I think there will be something tying PlaneScape to Magic The Gathering worlds some day.

Since we haven’t seen Birthright and PlaneScape since 2nd, I expect them before Dark Sun. With the success of Starfinder, something having to do with Spell Jammer would not surprise me either.

The return of Dark Sun.

The second Ravenloft module, the house of Gryphon Hill.

News about videogames, maybe a free adaptation of Gamma World.

A new Dragonlance novel. Maybe about time travel and parallel universe.

Spelljammer comic by IDW. Maybe a crossover with D&D version of Hasbroverse franchises.

Teen horror action-live serie based in Dark*Matter (d20 Modern seting), with stranger things than a girl with psionic powers.

Teaser of the official TTRPG Fortnite: Save the world, but only four classes.

UA about chronomancers, binders with vestige pacts, incarnum and martial adepts. The incarnum will be like use chakras and essence points for metamagic effects. The martial maneuvers will use a simple reload system for a faster fight even with martial adepts enemies.

A crossover Transformers - Star Wars Legends (expanded universe), where the decepticons caused the robotphobia by the Yuzzan Vong (and alien version of dinobots).

Well I'm a bit late, but I'm wondering what the adventures will be this fall. I suspect something that opens up more of the forgotten realms, it will probably be a collection of adventures that take place in different areas, like dessert, eastern and other themes. No idea what the new adventure will be.

Maybe some thing that pays homage to inter-plane travel, but is totally new.

Speculation is never late, nor is it early. Speculation arrives exactly when it intends to.....or something like that.

My initial thoughts were they would pull the trigger on either Planescape or Dark Sun this year. The new Psionics UA, as much as I don't like the direction they're going, is closer to being print-worthy. Unless feedback is overwhelmingly negative, that will be coming soon, and Dark Sun along with it.

However, seeing as how we've gotten Wildemount and getting Theros, I really don't see another setting releasing this year. Stranger things have happened though.

I think we're due for that full plane hopping or Spelljamming adventure though. That's where my current money is.
