The newly designed character sheets for Dungeons & Dragons are now available on D&D Beyond's website. The new sheets were created for use with the new 2024 revised 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons and were released as part of the early release launch of the 2024 Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond. Notably, the new character sheets are condensed from 3 pages to 2, contain attunement slots for magic items, and place various skill proficiency stats under their corresponding core ability score. Also, the new character sheet contains various technical updates, such as "Heroic Inspiration" replacing inspiration and "Species" replacing "Races." Please note that this is not a fillable PDF, so you'll have to print it and fill it out on your own.

This marks the first time since 2014 that D&D has updated its official character sheets, with print copies eventually going on sale in a couple of weeks. Also to come are several campaign tracker sheets that will be available as part of the to-be-released Dungeon Master's Guide.

But then again... if members of the community make their own edits / adjustments to it (like the great versions folks have already produced here)... this is one of those times where people's irritation and annoyance with what WotC does or does not do just seem like a tremendous waste of energy. Who actually cares who produces quality character sheets? Why does WotC not doing it cause such angst?
It's just that I personally dislike the design choice they made with the asymmetrical ability scores. Maybe it's just me who doesn't like it, but I feel like a multimillion-dollar company that employs professional graphical designers for their flagship product could've made something that didn't have such a weird design choice, to the point that I want to fix it on day one. As in, I've seen indie RPGs that have much more appealing design choices, and I'm just annoyed that WotC makes yet another uninspired choice for the game that the community will need to fix with their own tools.

What does them being a multimillion-dollar company have to do with making something you personally like? All the multimillions of dollars they have doesn't allow them to GUESS what your preferred style of character sheet looks like. That money doesn't give them precognition. So why in the world you think it should is beyond me. But more importantly, why it bothers you that they aren't able to guess your specific design aesthetic is ridiculous. Do you get mad at clothing designers when you see shirts on the rack that you don't like either?

I was trying not to assume that the design I disliked is bad, but since you're being so aggressive about it let me put it this way:I think it's bad design. I think it looks objectively ugly when you put ability scores in an asymmetrical manner like this on a character sheet. And I think a multimillion dollar company's designers could do a design that is much less of a sore to the eyes. It is lazy to plop down all the ability scores down there haphazardly instead of navigating the empty space in a way that is easy to the eyes and does not disrupt the way your eye is supposed to follow the information.

It is basic design principle really. For reading / scanning information symmetry, alignment, and proper use of white space are some of the first things you learn.

My only slight nitpick is that, since you decoupled the skills from the ability scores, the list of skills no longer have their default associated ability score in parentheses (i.e. Athletics (STR))
Yep, I thought of that. I was trying something like this:

Using text from the character sheet, I used an upside-down "M" as the "W" for Wisdom, and C is good for CHA since CON has no associated skills. There weren't any "( )" on the sheet for me to steal, and with Sleight of Hand I wouldn't really have room for full "(DEX)" afterwards, or even just "(D)".

I might be able to get something more workable tomorrow. But if the above is enough to take care of your needs, I can repost the pdf with that change implemented.

To be honest, after a decade I should probably have them memorized anyway. I’m not familiar with creating or altering PDFs, so I didn’t realize you couldn’t simply add characters that weren’t already there. I could always just suck it up and cope.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I do get a little upset at clothing designers.

For quite a few years, it seems to be the case that many companies no longer make men's jeans that reasonably accommodate testicles.

It's an odd design choice.
