D&D (2024) 2024 Impressions and Surprises from real play Experiences

From the Glossary:

A creature with Tremorsense can pinpoint the location of creatures and moving objects within a specific range, provided that the creature with Tremorsense and anything it is detecting are both in contact with the same surface (such as the ground, a wall, or a ceiling) or the same liquid.

Check under Dwarf.

It's more restricted than normal temorsense.

But again, if you had fun you did it correctly.
@buami, the issue here is that the dwarf must be in contact with stone to use their tremorsense. It is a case of the more specific (dwarf) over ruling the general (tremorsense). But I agree with @mellored, do what is fun for your group!

And thank you for sharing your experiences!

Liquids are explicitly mentioned in the Tremoresense Glossary Entry. So that really works.

The Dwarf tremorsense is limited to stone.

Interestingly though 60' of liquid is 2.1 million gallons so a creature with regular tremorsense to 60' has a lot of information in water.

A funny thing about Tremorsense is that the Rules Glossary gives the full definition of it, while Dwarves only get the ability in regard to stone as part of their Stonecunning ability. I figured the full definition was included for a reason, so I looked through the Creature Stat Blocks in Appendix B, only to discover that none of the creatures got it. I would have thought Spiders would get Tremorsense in regard to detecting creatures on webs, but the stat block only mentions detecting creatures' locations as part of their Web Walker trait.

My experience has been mostly positive. Actually, mostly the same as 5e has always been, except combats are taking longer because there's a few more options going on. Character creation was about the same. Rules are much easier for players to find. Monks are OP.

"You must be on a stone surface or touching a stone surface to use this Tremorsense".

Though I don't see much issues ignoring that restriction.
It seems like "you", the Dwarf character, must be on a stone surface to utilize Tremorsense, but those detected dont need to be? So underwater, if the Dwarf is touching the basin, the creatures in the water in the basin, can be detected?

Xorn, Purple Worms, most oozes and a slew of other creatures in the MM have tremorsense (including dragons, as I recall).
