D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

The new ancient green dragon from the 2025 Monster Manual was previewed at Gen Con.

I think I like the idea of making Legendary Actions just Reactions. It was a distinction without a difference to account for having more than one. Although, a successful slow spell can really turn the tide now (you know, after getting past Legendary Resistance).

I have mixed feelings, but I have had some fun making dragons in this style since it became apparent they might go this way. I've also found a way to add mythic traits/actions into it now that legendary actions are gone.

So what exactly is a corrosive miasma? Is it a spell? Is a different type of breath weapon? Does the dragon hock a loogie at the party?

It does have a significant damage increase overall. Previously, the bite did 24. Rend deals 27, and can be done 6 times per round.

The Original Ancient Green calculated out to be effectively CR 23 (Which is normal for dragons - their actual CR is usually 1 less than their printed CR so that fights against them are harder than expected).

This one calculates out to CR 25.

Only if you assume it gets 3 reaction rend attacks. They may not be how the 2024 DMG assumes reactions factor into CR.

I think noone mentioned that the dragon effectively lost one legendary action/reaction. Before it was 1 reaction + 3 legendary actions. Now it is 3 reactions.

what do you want it to be? It is a miasma that is corrosive, how that manifests appears to left to your interpretation (which I am fine with). IMO, it is magic

I really like the way reactions have specific triggers. I constantly forget to have boss monsters do their cool things when it isn't their turn. This new format is much better for my peanut-sized brain.

That has been the new standard for a while, so not really something new to discuss. Time dragons had the same format and so does Vecna.

Probably. I am also wondering if lair actions are truly gone, but I am guessing they are, which is a shame.

Could be those are on the prior page, similar to the expanded lair stuff in Fizban's?
