25 Years of Dungeons and Dragons

Silver Moon, that's just darned impressive, and I must say, I am envious. While I've been playing since 1978, games and gamers have come and gone, and friends (and I) have moved away. I envy the stability and the continuity in your lives.

I wish I was still gaming with the guys I played with 25 years ago. I miss them. And the guys from 20 years ago, and the guys from 10 years ago...

Congratulations, Jon! That's awesome.

My group (and campaign) has its 15th anniversary on July 19th. I thought that was pretty good -- and you beat us by a decade!

You've been gaming longer than I've been alive.

Feel old.

Well, I certainly feel young.

;)

Congratulations!

My gaming group began on May 24th, 1982 so today marks our twenty-fifth anniversary. Next Sunday will be our 1018th game. We are currently five games into our 140th module (Iron Orb of the Duergar from Dungeon #46) and three of the playing characters in this module have been played off-and-on from our very first game. The six current members of our gaming group have all been around since the first three years.

So I'm curious how many other long-running campaigns there are out there.

So what rule system do you use?

When I realized that I have Character sheets older than the latest American Idol winner, I tend to feel old, too. :D

yeah, my first character (I still have it), is about the same age (17) as the this years winner.

I started gaming in 1980. I still game with the people that I played with back then occaisionally (some of us have moved, so it's only possible when I visit my home town on vacation).

My current campaign began in 1986. One of the regular players today dates back to the campaign's 2nd game session, and 3 others have been with the group for many years.

Three of the core members of my group (including me) have been gaming together since 1979. I can't make any claims to an ongoing campaign of any sort though past infamous PCs appear as NPCs from time to time.

What is even more remarkable is that we formed in Moncton, New Brunswick and have continued on gaming in Toronto - 1500 km away in another province entirely.

Two others in our gaming group met at U of Toronto in the early 80s. They joined our group (and us, theirs) in the early 90s. The group games weekly (every Saturday).

If there is anything I have come to appreciate about gaming, it is that it keeps old friends connected, despite their diverging lives, careers and other interests.

When others here note that gaming groups don't seem to stay together long, I really cannot relate to that experience at all.

My first PC is 25 years old, though, in-game, she's in her 40s (having started out as a 17-year-old fighter).
