3.0 classics

Adventure wise (not in any order)....

Crucible of Freya and the free downloads from Necromancer Games
The Grey Citadel from Necromancer Games
Tomb of Abysthor from Necromancer Games ( I smell a trend developing)
The Vault of Larin Karr from Necromancer Games
Nemorin's Vault from Fiery Dragon
Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
The Banewarrens from Malhavoc

I can get behind most of these selections, but I'd like to comment on the 2 of the above-listed modules that I actually ran.

The Crucible of Freya is allegedly designed for 1st level characters, but if run as written, it will get them all killed.

NeMoren's Vault is much better in that regard. The challenges are much more reasonable. My players had fun in this module. However, if your players are willing to look hard, they will find *way* too much treasure than a group of beginning characters should reasonably have.

(BTW, both of the previous modules have web enhancements that provide even greater value for the purchase!)

Another adventure to add to the list of 3.0 classics is "Of Sound Mind". It assumes the use of 3.0 psionics, but it's also a low-level adventure, so it wouldn't be hard to trade out 3.5 versions if you wanted to. My players had a blast in this module. If the characters make dumb choices, they will get killed. But if they play smart, it's a well-designed adventure all the way around (and quite memorable as well).

Any adventure you don't have is worth getting. Whether it is Necromancer, Goodman, Fiery Dragon, Kalamar, Freeport stuff, whatever. If your getting them on the cheap they are worth getting just for the maps and NPC's.

As for books:

Alchamy and Herbalism (I bleieve there is a 3.5 version, or at least a 3.5 download)
The Traps and Treachery Books
Book of the Righteous (RAWKS!!)
Basically what others have suggested, I think they are all good/worth having.

"The Wizard's Amulet" free prelude (web enhancement) to Crucible is available on the Necromancer site, you can use it to help level the party to 2nd level before you even start Crucible.

  1. Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting
  2. Book of the Righteous
  3. Traps and Treachery
  4. Manual of the Planes (if you are interested in planar stuff)
  5. Any well recommended adventures (such as most of the ones previous listed) as they are pretty simple to convert to 3.5E

I would also recommend the Books of Eldritch Might 1-3 but there is no need since the 3 books have been collated and updated to 3.5 in The Complete Book of Eldritch Might.

Olaf the Stout

In addition to the Scarred Lands stuff, if you are at all interested in naval campaigns, I would suggest
  • Living Imaginations Broadsides!!
  • Living Imaginations Pirates

The latter is actually extremely useful since it includes all sorts of goodies about shipping and the like. A really nice price list of how much various goods are worth and how heavy they are to carry on a ship. And some of the most detailed ship construction rules I've seen.
