3.0 - Cleric as Holy Warrior

Okay, that pretty well lays it all out, thanks Elder-Basilisk. I think my primary motivation for Expertise was flavor-based (I can dish it out but I can parry too!), but then again parrying may also be an assumed part of why the base 10 exists, I guess. Now that I understand the various costs, the feat's attractiveness is greatly reduced.

All through this discussion my DM has been reminding me of things like, "Remember that my games aren't really combat-based to begin with, and this one especially is about character concept" or "I'm going to play around with armor rules and make it less lethal". So, I'm trying not to stress too much, but I also don't want to ignore good sense. Your mentioning of Rend especially reminds me of the instance where it took my fighter from near-full to -9 in one full-attack action. Spring Attack became my best friend for the rest of the campaign...

Alas, I'm going to miss that extra skill point... I don't suppose Heal's the most vital skill in a Paladin/Cleric party, eh?
