It's funny. After I did that Anime thread in my sig, the only pics that people could come up with, by and large, were the ones reprinted from Paizo. Yet, Paizo's the one being held up as carrying to torch on for 3e.

Guess 3e really was anime. :p

Wasn't Piazo the bad guy from Slayers?

Don't worry. That art is for that Pathfinder RPG thing. I'm not really into paizo, but I think, by the looks of the art they are using, they are trying to bring some Exalted players to their new game.

WOTC would never allow such thing in real D&D products. We're safe.;)

LOL Then you must think most every 3.0 and 3.5 WOTC product isn't a real D&D product!

I like the picture, and you can certainly see WAR's influences shining through - that sword is far from practical, but certainly fits in a high-fantasy world. She should be holding the sword away from herself IMO, but it's my only complaint.

So, if this picture isn't anime, then... what is?

Does this mean that, if you can have elements of anime (ridiculously sized sword, spikey hair, etc) and it Not be Anime(tm), then you can have the Bo9S-style names and it not be Anime?

Where's the line?

Not Anime. Warhammer.

Actually I think people are missing the point. Warhammer has been doing the grotesque-scarred-steroid thing forever.

Warhammer has been extremely successful for FLGS by virtue of generating regular sales of a high priced product from the average player. WotC is trying to muscle in on that market and is willing to emulate some of their schticks.

This directly addresses one of the fundamental weaknesses of being an RPG company: you can only make real money off the core books because the average player does not buy enough of the other stuff.

This is the second prong in WotC's effort to get "subscription"-like revenue from players. There is the digital realm. And then there is the Warhammer business model.

Beowulf used a ridiculously-sized sword (the sword of giants) in the original poem from the 8th century when he killed Grendel's dame.

Does that mean that the poem Beowulf was inspired by anime?
