3.5 Ninja

Dumb question, but why would the Ninja need to be converted from 3.0 to 3.5?

I mean, just use it as it, change the skill list from the 3.0 name to the 3.5 name. Pick Pocket to Sleight of Hand.

The main ability of the Rokugan Ninja is Sneak Attack, and that works the same way as in 3.5 as it did in 3.0.

Uncanny Dodge still works the same.

Then there is "Ninja Dodge", which also is basically unchanged (it's more or less just the Dodge feat).

Spead of Darkness - this just lets the Ninja add his Int bonus to initiative. I don't see why that would change.

Blind Fight - that's in 3.5 as well. Just use that feat.

Poison Use works the same.

Deflect Arrows also works the same.

Actually, as near as I can tell, the Ninja seems completely unaffected by any of the changes from 3.0 to 3.5, other than the names of the skills.

Funny, I just figured all that out today myself :uhoh:

My only thought is that the Ninja BAB progression (of a Fighter) is too much, I'll probably drop it to Cleric or maybe even Rogue...

And of course, je ninje, tu ninjes, il/elle/on ninje, nous ninjeons, vous ninjez...

En ninja, två ninjor.

Ninjan, ninjorna.

En $w33t ninja, två $w33ta ninjor.

Den $w33ta ninjan, De två $w33ta ninjorna.

You can say that again!!!

I think the best would be to multiclass between gestalt Monk-Sorcerer and gestalt Fighter-Rogue.

Assuming the other PCs don't have access to gestalt classes of course - such would dilute the specialness of the ninja character.

It is my opinion that a Ninja should NOT be as good as a straight up Fighter in a up front fight. I think that a Monk/Rogue gestalt would make better sense. Tons of stealth abilities, unarmed fighting abilities, and the Sneak Attack ability. They don't necessarily need much magic... they get everything they need from their Batman Utility Belt.

I would make ninjas as alternating rogue/monk multiclass, bringing in Assassin levels when available, ultimately ending up with a rog5/monk5/assassin10 at 20th level. I think that would handle the concept quite nicely.

I'd say make them Rogues but with the added benefit of progressing as a Monk in regards to AC, Movement, and Unarmed Combat. They wouldn't get any of the other Monk Class Features but you might give them the occasional bonus feat that they could use to pick from a selection of Ninja bonus feats (similar to the Fighter's bonus feat selection... they can't just take anything).

Edit: They would NOT have the Rogue's ability to find and disarm traps with a DC higher than 20. Otherwise, why would anyone play a Rogue ever again.

In a real way, Ninja need not be a class. If you read the Complete Ninjas Handbook you realized that within a Ninja Clan there were Fighters, Wizards, Clerics, and almost every other class. Only if you were making a Genin Ninja would you need a single class Ninja.
