@ everyone: most likely this will be an 7 member party, so level 8 will most likely be the starting level. I'm still surprised that there have been no clerics -- one Favored Soul (lvl 2 at most), and a few Druids. Giants pack a big punch.

I think 8th level should be fine; although, as you say...giants pack a big punch. You may want to do a quick run-through of the adventure and figure out the rough ELs of each encounter. I have a feeling you'll find most are EL10+.

How 'bout this, then, as I'm more and more convinced that the Dead Necromancer, much though I love the idea, wouldn't be the best of fits for this sort of campaign:

Gnome Archivist 8. With the Archivist of Nature feat to give bonuses vs. giants, the Touch of Healing reserve feat, and an encyclopedic knowlege of...stuff.

I'll, ah, write him up in a bit.

I've looked over a large chunk of the material, and noticed that there are a couple of instances (as written) where an error in judgement would result in a battle that would be EL17 or 18, which even 12th+ level PC's would have a hard time overcoming, but they are somewhat few and far between, and the PC's would have an idea what they were getting themselves into. Plus, I would anticipate the advancement of the PC's levels would spike early, then taper off somewhat.

I'm still looking for a PC who will be able to grapple a 12 ft, 7000 lb Fire Giant.

I might be up to that challenge. I played a gnome grappler in my f2f recently. With Close-Quartered Combat and Clever Wrestler, there are some unique possibilities available. I had my gnome successfully grapple a huge creature once, akin to hugging its ankle into a pin.

Granted, the shelf-life for such a character is limited, but it would be very interesting...

I would be happy to switch over to cleric. Only one catch, I need someone to tell me the finer details fo one, since I have never played a cleric before. If anyone thinks this is worth the effort, then I will have a cleric built by.......tonite or tomorrow morning, at the latest.

I'm building a warlock. I havn't decided on the final build nor the race yet, but just wanted to put an FYI out there. Warlocks should fare relatively well since giant touch AC is usually horrid and warlocks have excellent escape mechanisms (Fell Flight, Walk Unseen, and Flee the Scene).

Someone explain to me how the cleric domains have changed from 3.5e to Eberron. I know that you pick a church, but that's about it. I can't find my freakin book to read about it.

My first concept for this was actually a halfling grappler :). You need a few things, but you can just manage them: Clever Wrestling (complete warrior) halves size bonuses and penalties for grappling, Reaping Mauler (complete warrior) will give you further bonuses to grappling, Fell the Greatest Foe makes you deal an extra 1d6 per size category difference to larger opponents, the Dagger of Last Resort (I think it was in Complete Arcane, I can't quite remember) can attack a no penalty in grapples and does another 1d6 per size category your opponent is larger than you, and FINALLY you pick up the Belt of the Champion, a relic of Kord that gives +6 to grapple checks.

Actually, it would be a 4th level ogre with +2 LA, meaning he could only be a 3rd level Favored Soul.

Yeah, unfortunately I was at work when I created the concept and thus didn't have the MM with me to find out the HD and LA for the ogre. I knew it would be a painful drop in class level, but I didn't think it would be that bad (a level 2 Favored Soul when all was said and done). I had originally thought of ogre because I knew we'd need our healer to be up front and personal with all of our tanks, and thus having a really solid guy like an ogre would allow him to soak any damage that might come his way while he was healing everyone else.

But if he gets knocked all the way down to only a 2nd level Soul... then it's not worth it (even if I spent most of my cash on higher powered wands). Mayhaps I will rework him to just be an orc or goblin instead. Same premise... but without any extra hit dice or level adjustment. That way he can be a straight Favored Soul 8.

There are a few new domains in the Eberron Campaign Setting, and there's (obviously) a different set of deities. It's also possible to be a cleric of the Sovreign Host as a pantheon (in which case you can choose any domains offered by any of the Sovriegns, which includes almost all the ones good-aligned PCs will want).

Most important new stuff

- You only have to be within two alignment steps of your deity, not just one. This allows for evil clerics of good deities.

- Most of the deities of the setting cannot be proven to exist, and clerics of cults devoted to some entities that are clearly not deities have powers.
