Ah, very cool. My wife (as I mentioned above) likes playing rogues, and while she doesn't mind some combat here and there, she definitely prefers roleplaying to combat. Any recommendations on the "best of 3rd edition," as it were?

For roleplay? Gotta be The Crimson Throne adventure path. Cut the fifth module, a very well-done undead-heavy dungeon crawl which is ultimately both redundant and superfluous, but other than that, you've got a great adventure there, great RP opportunities, good setting support, and tons of urban flavor. It's got plenty of space for side quests too.

I can't recommend Carnival of Tears and Cages of Delirium enough. They're both insanely creepy, with the former managing to be gross-out funny too.

Are there just the six chapters in the AP (Pathfinder 7-12)?

That AP looks cool, but by the time you buy all six adventures, the Player's Guide, and the Guide to Korvosa, that's nearly $150...well out of my budget (heck, the hardbound Shackled City AP was only $40 or $50).

Yes, one book costs less then eight. :D

If you are on a tight budget then I'd check around and see what you can find cheap on ebay or Amazon or other places.

You're thinking about this all wrong, dude. For $150 dollars, you have 100 hours of quality time with your wife. Do you want the best experience for her, one that's perfect for what SHE wants out of the gaming session, or do you want a series of Dungeon Crawls? That's what you get with Shackled City; nothing wrong with that, of course, but it's not what she wants. I want you to think about how much it would cost for the two of you to spend the 20 nights out together instead of having quality imagination time together. Crimson Throne is cheap at the price.

And, your alternative is stitching together 8-10 modules at 15 bucks a pop, if you can find them now. Alternatively, you can write your own stuff: create your own world, people an entire city, come up with stat blocks, create interesting encounters and an engaging meta-plot. If that takes you 15 hours, then you get a bargain with Crimson Throne if your time is worth more than 10 bucks an hour.

Trust me, as a DM for my own significant other, it's completely worth whatever money you spend to have this kind of shared imaginative experience be high-quality rather than mediocre.

Your choice, of course, but you did ask what the best of 3E was for this kind of campaign. You don't get cheap with "best".
