360 or PS3?

Nah, of course they'll come out. But its a matter of WHEN.
Sure, but I have a wife, several RPG campaigns, a backlog of PS2 games, and a cadre of good drinking buddies. I'm in a position to wait it out.

You can only market a game system promising games for so long before you have to actually...you know, release them.
While I doubt Sony will get 10 years of the PS3, it is still pretty early in it's life-cycle.

So what does that mean for the PS3 if they do go multiplatform, for whatever reason? Suddenly the expensive console loses a great deal of its worth when you can get them on the 360.
It does. But my decision to get a PS3 didn't have much to do with exclusive titles. The PS3 offered my a tidy one-box solution: hi-def DVD, media center, built-in wi-fi, with the eventual promise of some next-gen gaming goodness (with Heavenly Sword just around the corner).

I have no doubt I'll pick up an Xbox for its exclusive titles (read: Mass Effect). I'll just do it at toward the end of the 360's life-cycle. It should be cheaper (and cooler-running) by then.

If I was in your position, I'd probably feel the same way. I, however, have a PS2 for my backlog(and it lets me play things like Crono Trigger and such from the old PS1 ports), I don't drink, and while I have no wife, I still am very limited on my money.

I think the Blu-Ray is definitely a big draw for the PS3, but I'm just not feeling the whole new format thing yet. I don't have the kind of dispoable income to shell out $500 for something like that when I have a perfectly good DVD player(...my PS2...). If there were more games, maybe, but even then they'd have to be amazing. I'm happy with the Wii and DS, and looking to the 360 in the next few months as that's a bit more affordable for me plus has a great thing of games.

Different positions we're in. :)

Oh, I agree that its still early, but its earlier for all of them and the PS3 just can't sit back and take its time anymore. Last generation was fine, since they were the ones with a good headstart(of a sort), but now they're behind and just falling farther.

While I admit that Heavenly Sword looks nice...it just seems to me to be God of War redressed. Sure, that could work and it probably will, but I'm not feeling the hype for it.

Oh, and Mallus...buy a DS. You know you want to. :p

Perhaps you bought the wrong hand-held game system then?

I bought my DS after Hurricane Wilma. When I started the second week without power, I bought a DS and Castlevania and passed the time.

I had Gamefly for a while, and tried lots of DS games. I canceled gamefly when I realized I was getting games I'd never even look at buying, simply to justify Gamefly. :)

I currently have transformers, which is so-so, and I am sticking with my DSPhat, in spite of the new colors of the DS Lite.

There just isn't an alternative for me though, PSP games don't appeal to me and half the life of the PSP was geared towards pushing it as a media player more than a game system, IMO.

The DS games also tend towards "puzzle games" and such. Yes, just like the Wii, there are other games, but most of them are minor games that don't catch my attention, so oh well.

Nope. I got it for Final Fantasy III (and the - supposed - upcoming Dragon Quest remakes). Yay!

It's got a future, hopefully (just not a present). ;)

A Final Fantasy IV remake by the same team that did FF3 is on its way. If that's successful too, I would not be surprised to see V and VI follow suit.

Etrian Odyssey is already out and is very much a throwback to the Wizardry and Bard's Tale style (including the insane difficulty). You have to draw your own maps too.

Age of Empires: Age of Kings has been available for a while and it's a great turn-based strategy game. It's based on the RTS franchise on the PC, but it's been given a total turn-based makeover.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin are great adventures in the tradition of Symphony of the Night. New Super Mario Bros plays like a sequel to Super Mario Bros 3. Hotel Dusk brings back fond memories of old PC graphic adventure games.

Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass is almost here, and it looks pretty amazing.

How is this not a present for the console?
