3rd Domain as a Feat?

Sigurd

First Post
Friend of mine is making a first level cleric. As I'm not so sure of the gods of the available pantheon yet I suggested he just pick domains and we'd flesh out a god for the domains and his alignment.

He had a look at Deities and Demigods & Players handbook.

He wants Repose, Runecraft and Healing as domains. I'm leaning towards letting him take healing as a 3rd domain in exchange for his feat slot. The deity will be Lawful or Neutral Good.

Do people think this is reasonable as a feat????
What are the gotchas\problems people see with this?????

Extra Domain is an Epic feat. I think it's not so great as a feat able to be taken at 1st level.

I think the balance issue is that it gives you something worth a little more than a feat in addition to enhanced spell choices. So it is better than a normal feat. I think it would be a good epic level feat though.

healing domain is pretty weak,
maybe i'm missing something, but all i see it granting is:
+1 damage healed per spell
and the ability to perpare a cure spell as the daily domain spell

i'd probly allow it as a feat...

Extra Domain is an Epic feat.

That's funny, it was shown as non-epic in either Mongoose's or AEG's feat books (not sure which). Not core rules, but still. Of course most gods have four domains only, so it can only be taken twice.

Usually before epic levels people have to take levels in some specific PrC to get an extra domain. I'd say that allowing it for a single feat is a little too cheap.

In the general case, a domain is worth more than a feat, IMO.
In the case of healing I see no problem, except that this domain horribly lacks flavor.

A bonus domain as a feat is unbalanced, even with the domain being healing. +1 caster level with healing spells can have significant effect, though I'll grant it is far less useful than say--the Death domain with the death touch ability.

Though Healing in and of itself is not that powerful a domain, the bigger problem is setting a precedent for future gaming. By allowing the cleric in question to do it once means that another time he might want to ask for another bonus domain, and possibly one with dramatically more power.

Big picture. :)

He knows that healing is the least domane he wants

Repose, Runecraft and Healing

but thats why he's making it healing :) as the feat.

Still a dangerous precedent. What if another player wants to buy a domain as a feat and you say no because the other player is asking for a more powerful domain? You've set a precedent that it CAN be done. :)

Domains are too good for a normal feat. :)
