3rd Level Warlock Feat

Which feat would you recommend?

First Post
I'm running a fey-based warlock who just hit third level. I've been agonizing over what to pick for his feat and thought the hive-mind might be of some aid. We use a house rule which allows the selection of a feat which one does not qualify for, it lying dormant until such time as you meet the prerequisites. This has served to make a hard choice harder.

As it stands here are the leading choices:

Leadership - won't kick in 'til 6th but can be a very strong feat. beguiling influence is coming for this character and it's a city-based campaign. If I go this way I'm going to try for a crafter cohort, so I won't have to burn extra feats to take advantage of imbue item.

Extra Invocation - also won't kick i 'til 6th, but the an extra invocation, even a least, is tempting.

Weapon Focus(ray) - having spent two feats on the EB already, I hesitate to throw in a third, but the EB does get used an awful lot

True Believer - a feat from MIC that allows the activation of relic powers for certain items. There's an item, millenial chainmail, which I like and which would work with the flavor of the character. The feat has a minor daily saving throw bonus and wouldn't really kick in until I hit my 7th HD and find or have made the item in question. I'd have to get the item cleared with my DM before commiting to the feat, however.

How could you have left out?!? - Let me know what I forgot and why I'm a dolt for doing so.

Any other suggestions you have are welcome. I'm going the Binder/Hellfire route, though it'll be Feyfire in this case.

You'll regret taking Weapon focus when you start hitting consistently, and that won't take long (if you don't hit touch ACs most of the time right now) I'd start looking at any (metamagic) spell ability or sudden metamagic feat.

How could you forget: Ability Focus (Eldritch Blast). +2 to the save DC of any Eldritch Essence invocation... schweet.

How could you forget: Spell Penetration. +2 to your caster level checks to harm critters with SR. If you're losing a caster level to Binder, you'll want this especially.

How could you forget: Improved Binding (Tome of Magic). Widens your choice for Vestiges, though I guess you only ever want Naberous.

Also consider: Sudden Ability Focus (Tome of Magic). +2 to one Invocation or Vestige ability 1/day. Neither shabby nor brilliant.

Cheers, -- N

You can't take a feat unless you meet the prerequisites. Either before or at the same level as the one you take the feat at.

Leadership has a prerequisite of 6th level character. You can not take it until your 6th level feat.

What else do you have? From your post I'm assuming Point Blank and Precise Shot. Waste of feats there (opinion).

Nobody has mentioned Mortalbane yet. From BoVD, not a Vile (or even Evil) feat. 5/day, add 2d6 to each of your damaging SLAs. My Warlocks tend to take this at least twice.

Not everybody plays 100% RAW. My group uses a ton of House Rules, so far the RAW Nazis haven't knocked down the door :p

Huh? Binders? What do they have to do with anything?

Binder 1 (with Naberius as vestige) is the thing to do for future Hellfire Warlocks (PrC from Fiendish Codex II).

The various empower, quicken, maximize spell like abilities feats might be handy. They are only useable three times a day though.

Are you allowed any of the various retraining rules? That could change which feat would be good to pick up now as well.

Just read Mortalbane...that's cool. Quick question though...It says it reduces you SLA damage against outsiders by half. Is that any time you blast an outsider or just when you goof and apply Mortalbane to that blasting of the outsider?

Thanks,
Rich
