3rd Party Classes - Wish List

Pretty much as soon as I get done reading the three core books, I will be working on: FFT/FFTA 4e and World of Warcraft 4e. Yay. =)

Actually I've been fiddling around with a FF/4e system myself, the little write up I did was more or less drawn from from that. And Kamikaze Midget has his own little FFZ project.... I wonder how many FF inspired games are going to come out of the woodwork?

This promises to be interesting indeed. :)

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced classes modified to 4th edition-style. :)

You know, I really wanted to like that game considering how awesome FFT was for PS1, but that referee thing in all fights making arbitrary rules was so unbelievably stupid it completely ruins it for me.

Referee Class [NPC only]
Infinity Hit Points & Resistance Infinity to all damage types
Move: Always within 10 squares of a big combat, no matter how much people try and run away from this loone!
Warp Laws of Physics: Once/Encounter, the referee may declare a certain weapon or spell illegal, anyone using the illegal item is immediately teleported to jail. This jail can only be left by paying the fine (DC Infinity check to escape, bribe, etc to get out other than by the estabished means).
GM Fiat: Daily: As an immediate action, the Referee can retroactvely change what happened this round to whatever he wants.

I would love a variant of the mageblade and akashic classes from AE. I'm not really jazzed about buying the Forgotten Realms book just for the class. A pdf would just be lovely.

Since you said wish list, these are classes I WISH would come out, but I know probably never will:

Shaman (Spirit based, possibly totems/kami/whathaveyou).

Actually, in the new Warlord exerpt the Shaman is mentioned in the beginning:

Very early on in 4th Edition design, our work on character roles led us to the idea that any character serving as the party’s “cleric”—whether a bard, shaman, warlord, or whatever—needed to be as good at that job as the cleric or else we’d have yet another edition of D&D in which every party still needed a cleric.

So we might actually get lucky.

I would prefer 3rd parties steer clear of things like Barbarian, Druid, and Bard, since they've been confirmed already for PHB2.

Chris

I couldn't disagree more. I would hope that the 3pp's would help fill a bit of the void UNTIL the PHB2. I certainly don't think they should steer clear. They won't have any impact on sales of the PHB2 but could help give options to DMs unwilling to wait another year for some of those Classes.

Oh, and as for the Wuxia book, that sounds great! Sounds like an awesome potential product.

Duellist - martial striker; with a limited marking ability for those that have done him wrong.

Witch Hunter - divine striker; anti-magic dude.

Wilderness Guide/Hunter - martial controller; using the environment for advantage for his peeps.

Diplomat - social (made that one up) leader; political powerhouse and influence machine. Along with the bard, making use of (hyperthetical) new social rules.

Out of combat roles/activities should not be a balancing factor for IN combat role. So the Diplomat's gotta bring something to the combat table on par with everyone else.

I don't know if anybody here also owns the Swashbuckling Adventure's Campaign Setting by Seventh Sea, but I would love to see them make a 4e campaign and update their classes; especially the wanderer as that class often replaced rogue in our games.

Monk - Meh. I know it's popular, I just never liked them. I welcome more people to take a shot though, since I might like ver.2.
Barbarian - Yes, absolutely. I especially want to see a 3rd-party Martial Barbarian, as the Barbarian WotC seems to be building is more of a Primal PS + AE's Totem Warrior = Beast!!warrior. That's cool, but I prefer Conan types.
Bard - Yes, and no. We know that the Bard is going to be in PHB2, and he sounds like exactly what I want already.
Assassin - No. This is just a Rogue with a insta-kill Power. Just make the power; don't clog up the system with a whole new class. At the very most this is a Paragon Path.
Necromancer - Yes, absolutely.
Bladesinger - As an Arcane Melee Striker, maybe. But only so long as they don't call it that. Too much baggage.
Eldritch Knight - No. Too close to Swordmage.
Cavalier - No. LG Fighter ... on a horse. Ride is a Skill and maybe some Feats, not a class. Paragon Path at most. But generally I dislike "mounted" classes of any kind, since no one else is mounted, and this changes entirely the dynamics of who's being effective from one combat to the next (mounted vs. non-mounted).
Elementalist - Maybe. This sounds like what the PHB2 Sorcerer is going to be. No need to double up.

I'd like the Monk to have two paths--one making him primarily a Striker and the other for grappling/Aikido that makes him more of a Controller (hybrid Class).
I guess this is fine. I think a number of classes (such as the Druid) will shift between Roles depending on build. That's how WotC will do "hybrid." A class will allow you to go either way, but you can't actually do both at the same time. You have to pick.

Two classes I don't think there's a real need for: Duelist and Unfettered: these are Rogues without the Thievery skill. Not enough else there to justify a class.

My list of combat classes includes:
Enchanter
Sha'ir
Summoner/Demonologist
Druid variants (there are so many ways to go with this class (Shifter, Greenbond, Storm-mage, etc), I doubt anyone will really step on each other's toes)

But what I really want a 3PP to come out with are a list of non-combat Classes (and Roles). Essentially this supplement would replace parts of the Skill system with Diplomat, Court Knight, Country Lord, Mercenary, Academic, Scoundel, Smuggler, etc. etc. These "classes" have no effect on your in-combat role or prowess (that's determined by your combat Class), but effect your out-of-combat skills and abilities instead. You'd essentially take them as a "gestalt" class which does not impede or effect your combat classe's advancement.
