4 pit fiends too much?

Uh... maybe it was a typo and he meant 25th level? If so, yeah, it would maybe be a tad easy.

Otherwise, 4 pit fiends versus a 15th level party is ok if the players are very experienced and:
- the pit fiends are blind, deaf, dumb, and chained to the walls in an antimagic field, or
- the 15th level party is composed of about 16 characters, or
- the 15th level party has an average wealth of 3600000 GP in magical items, or
- they are the campaign BBEGs and the 15th level party isn't supposed to actually fight them for a long time, or
- for some reason you want to be very, very sure that the PCs all die.

It is not ok if you want the PCs to run from the encounter, because the pit fiends are very likely going to kill everyone in the party in the first round by casting 4 quickened fireballs and 4 meteor swarms. :D

Two words to describe your PCs: Fiend Fodder

Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact I could appreciate living vicariously through you when you have a TPK with the 4 pit fiends on a 15 level party, since I learned this last weekend just how hellacious powercritical was... So much for that particular smug little Arcanaloth. So much do I want revenge for him, but I can't justify it at the moment, so I'll have to settle with your players' PCs as little voodoo dolls of mine. So TPK away! :D

4 pit fiends is a 26th level encounter.

Your 15th level PCs are dead.

2 pit fiends and 6 mariliths is even worse (not to mention the fact that you'd have to come up with a reason for why these two Fiends would be working together... assuming you're using the "official WotC line" about Demons and Devils being mortal foes).

One pit fiend's probably also too much.

One marilith... Maybe.

4 pitfiends! What on earth did your party do to deserve it. If played intelligently this will be a tpk unless the party escaped real fast. Also what justification is there for 4 of the most powerful devils attacking the party when one should be able to wipe them out. Did they anger one of the lords of the nine, or one of the dark eight. There is no way they could survive either battle suggested.

If your PCs are played by someone named Jeremy, reaper, or Josiah (long before this incarnation of the boards), go ahead. The pit fiends should last a round, maybe two. If not, the PCs should last a round, maybe two.

I say go right ahead !

Sure your party can handle it.

Have fun !

Oh oh.... looky-look ! I busted 1000 posts !

Yay !

ANy of those pcs in there solars?:)

I agree they are toast.

Now a 25th level party could take that for breakfast. We had an epic sorc dismissal (not banish, just dismissal) two pit fiends without breaking a sweat.
