D&D 4E 4e Drow predictions?

First Post
I was just looking through the new D&D Minis release "Desert of Desolation" and I noticed there were 4 Drow related minis in the line.

Demonweb Swarm
Drider
Drow Blademaster
Drow Spider Priestess

This set of minis has been advertised as a 4e preview because "most" of the monsters will appear in the first 4e Monster Manual.

So I'm wondering if Drow are going to get their own section of the new MM and if we'll have different builds, as opposed to a flat race that we have to add class levels to (like in 3e).

We've also heard that the Duergar are going to get different abilities, so I'm thinking the designers are taking powers that used to apply to a whole race and are splitting them up into different builds. Maybe "darkness" and "levitate" will no longer be Drow racial abillities, but instead we'll have specific builds that have those powers and others that don't.

Regardless, I'm suspecting that Drow will have a greater role in vanilla D&D, as there wasn't another "group" of monsters in this miniatures release that had as many representatives.

I think that WotC should be truly visionary and get rid of all the spider-crap that the drow wallow in.

Spiders are so old school.

Instead, the drow should be associated with some new, fresh kind of creature.

Hmm.

Like hamsters.

Agreed. They freaking EAT their young! (Usually when they get scared for no good reason.) How evil is that! Plus you put three sisters in a cage, they're fine as kids. When they get to adolescence? They kill each other if they aren't seperated. Killin' babies and families would be fitting for the drow. Let us start an online petition.

Well since the Duergar are becoming tiefling dwarves with abilities gained through pacts with demons, then it stands to reason that Drow are becoming tiefling elves with their special abilities also coming from pacts with demons.

The vicious drow Warhamster.

Probably, it has some sort of demon or devil in it's ancestry.

This has some real potential, y'know. I think it's high time WotC did something truly new and visionary with their old game, introduced some original IP, and took things in a brand new direction we haven't seen before. Demondrow Warhamsters will lure so many people in who are tired of the old spider schtick, who feel that it has so much past connected with Lolth that they can't really get into it, and who generally think spiders are icky but hamsters are awesome.

In fact, maybe the drow should be kind of hamsteroid, to show thier close association. A little golden fur. Tiny ears. Pouches in their cheeks. Give them a fresh look, update them for the new edition, and make them easier, smoother, and more fun to play!

Sounds brilliant!

And no doubt the vicious Drow Warhamster will be a new unit in Warhamster 40000.

Hooray for the Hamster drow, and LOLth, their god of funny hamsters.

Given that other races have already been shown to have "types" I'm pretty sure you're right...

We'll see drow skirmishers, drow priestesses, and such...

This is the impression I got that they are doing with ALL creatures. Monsters no longer have hit dice and they are all built to be unique.

So instead of Drow as a base then each NPC needing to have levels of something to make them different (or added hit dice or templates), they are instead "all" unique. Each with their own purpose.

So, we'll have Drow Skirmisher who has 30 hitpoints and the ability to shoot poisoned bolts from his hand crossbow and an increased movement rate and is a level 5 skirmisher, and a Drow Priestess who has 50 hitpoints and is a level 8 leader with the ability to heal an ally and smite enemies with unholy power and summon a spider.
