Hitborn, heh. It is a good sign he doesn't feel the need to house rule. StiII, I wonder if a longsword weilding fighter/rogue (for example) will work.

I can't imagine that pick any 6 would be an issue. The non-blade may be an issue for a couple reasons however. 1) non-blades may have other feats or abilities that make them overpowered with sneak attack or similar abilities. 2) some of the "sneak attack weapons only" abilities don't necessarily match non-bladed weapons - take, for example, the "ignore armor" ability - I have a hard time seeing a rogue (or anyone, for that matter), slipping a small mace between a gap in someone's armor. And if you only change the weapon choice for sneak attacks, then you'll probably end up having to decide what weapons can be used on a by ability basis, which seems like a big pain.

Generic D&D! No fun builds for yoU!

I can't believe they're still messing around with "class" skills. Wasn't one of the most popular house rules in 3x were DM's eliminated "class/cross-class" skill nonsense and only dealt with "trained" skills. Anyways, I expect to house rule it right away if necessary (just to not have to play the dreaded "rules as written") and keep my players on their toes. The hit point thing is something that we've done since 2000 (check) so it's an example of our house rules having become 4e. Your welcome everyone :) (just kidding)

The only thing I can see to add right off the bat is to eliminate the "genericity" of D&D by adding subraces, family names, professions, and/or clans..but that just adds to background for roleplaying and encourages players to get away from the "we need to add half-tarassques to the class list" mentality for lack of combos. In generic D&D Elf is elf is elf is elf is elf is elf. Fighter-elf-sword-chainmail whoopdeedoooo does whoopdeedoo damage and has whoopdeedoo AC. Whoopdeedoo.

Forever, players sometimes get wrapped up in "builds" rather than "building" a "CHARACTER." "Look-ed, I gots the mostest powerful combo and I"m really mature abouts it..and my first goal is to breaks the game and makes it no funs for the DM." I've got this incredible urge to yell, "you're playing a tabletop game with 6 other people. You don't need to pretend that 6 million players out there are going to be amazed by your twinkies. ;) No one is EVER going to buy your D&D character." ;)

I hate to sound like one of those holier-than-thou, role-playing is more important than "fun" kind of guys, but I guess turning 36 and listening to kids who sound just like I did back in 1E makes me feel those geezers who lectured me on the same thing. No more fun "builds" for you! ;)

Mouse, what's it like watching us stumble about in the dark like this?

I'm tempted to say "More fun than a barrel of porn stars," just to be a [censored] about it. ;)

But the truth is, it's frustrating. I want to talk about the game. I want to correct the misunderstandings and false assumptions. I want to explain why I feel that the game really does run more smoothly. And I even want to explain what (very) few problems I do have, and how I'd tweak 'em.

And of course, I can't. Honestly, I've been tempted more than once to just walk away until the game's actually out. But I'm too much of an addict. ;)

I imagine come the first day the books are released, you Mouseferatu are going to be going crazy typing everything you wished to say right now, on EnWorld. :P
