D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

Also: You can also explain it by telepathically commanding the PC there, almost reflexively done by the succubus - just as a fighter would move his shield in place.

PCs are usually not trained to act as another PCs telepathically connected limb (plus the succubus won't care if the character gets hurt). If he is trained, he probably has it as a defender power. ;)

Yeah, and since the Succubi doesn't care if the character gets hurt makes even more sense for him to react faster, since he just be throwing himself infront of the Succubi, not trying to block the attack using his weapon/shield.

Okay, now this is what I'm talking about. WotC, good job! This is what we like to see.

Now, I will be indisposed while reading the excerpt. Please leave my mail by the coffee maker.

Uh, I'm not very comfortable with those "recharging" abilities, since some of them seem just weird (or working weirdly from a "sim" point of view). So 'War Devil' is using a trident, but he can only use the 'Trident'-ability half of the time? Or the 'Fiendish Tactics' (or whatever it was called) that without any descprition seems to be a random insight totally dependant on how the DM rolls (i.e. usable only if your "recharge roll" is succesfull).

You all missed the best point of the new succubus: she no longer drains you! So you can finally make some sweet love all night long.... ;)

I would view the recharge for something that isn't magical like that, as being part-and-parcel to the whole, "abstract representation of when that ability happens to work." So in this case, when the recharge comes into affect, it isn't that it "recharged" as much as, now it is probable that the attack with the trident will succeed in doing what that attack does.

I am not sure if the interposing thing will be that important. Against a low level party, it appears as if she just has to use her Charm each round, and after 4-6 rounds, the combat is over, and the Succubus has made a host of new friends. Nice.

From the text

The succubus can affect only one target at a time with its charming kiss.

I'm assuming he's just using the trident when he can get the secondary effects (ongoing effects, prone, etc.), rellying on his claw(s) between uses.

I really like the tactical feeling of those monster packs, like legion devil legionnaires, coming straight from the redundant department of redundancy and the demon leader.

About being charmed (kissed) and just leaving her side ... this will still bring down the wrath of the the devilish lover in form of a Opportunity Attack..

I find it interesting that the Devils have no "Bwa ha ha! You may have foiled me now mortals but I shall return!" powers. No teleports, not even invisibility. The GM will have to hand out potions and magic items to cover any thing else he wants them to do.

Also... Without those non-combat powers, just what exactly is it devils can bargin to do? No more build a castle in one night? No more transporting the villains away? Why would Faust bargin away his soul for nothing more than a hot chick or a few ugly minions? :\

Yeah I would say they be covered by:
-Rituals
-Knowledge the Devils can give
-Free Feats (could see a person gaining some Tiefling Racial Feats)
-Letting loose Devils and their minions to aid you in war
-Seducing a rival

Many things can be done that don't need mechanical reasons.

As for escaping and recurring villains. Well, I could see the Succubi using the chaos her powers wrought to escape, perhaps the War Devil doing the ally teleport switch to gain time to escape.

Or, simply give them a power since it is exception-based design.
